Painting 2.2/2.4 Engine Cover?

I ordered a extra engine cover off of e-bay for like 20 bucks today... I'm thinking of getting it painted if I can find a place that will do it for a reasonable price.

I've got a silver car so I don't know what color to get it done in... suggestions?

Heheh... with the silver trim on the interior there isn't really much else to paint. I don't know how easy it is to get a good looking silver for the engine cover... just have to see I guess...

You should not "Paint" the valve cover. It will not stick with the heat. You need to either powder coat it, or polish it. There is a active thread right now from a guy looking for people interested in getting their covers powder coated.

I do mean the plastic engine cover that says "ecotec" on it...

I don't have a show car or a clear hood or anything... but when I pop the hood I would like to have a little bit of eye candy to look at.

Do y'all think paint will stick to that plastic? I know it gets 250+ under there...

Hi temp paint like caliper paint will do just fine... but on the plastic COVER, you will need to prime it first or no it won't stick... but still use a good HI-TEMP paint... I don't know how the paints for plastics will stick under the hood!

sending out the goat covers to be painted by a guy who does sick work......will look like these only a brighter red to match the color of the car:

also there will be no silver on it except for the actual "GTO" letters

Mine kinda looks like DMcGrew's. I used a differant product than his, but still a high temp paint. 2 primer coats and 2 high temp coats later...

I have a question on this:

1. How exactly do you remove the cover that says "Ecotec" from your engine?

2. Where can I get primer for the cover (store)?

3. In your opinion, would a regular blue or a dark blue look better on a arrival blue cobalt?

1. You pull strait up, the only thing you have to remove is the Engine Oil Cap. The cover comes right off..

2. Store.

3. Something that matches the body color the closes I think.

So do you have to use primer on the cover?

I was just thinking of spraying th cover twice with high temp. paint, will it work well also?

Exclamation

Here's a shot of my painted engine cover:

I used VHT paint in a few coats after priming. The photo looks alot lighter than the actual color, it's actually a strong royal blue. It's not quite as deep as arrival blue, but it's a nice compliment, especially to my Amethyst Metallic. I was going to under coat the black areas in red or yellow, but then I decided to go for a more subtle look.

I spent about 30 mins masking off the ecotec logo and the bits over the valves.

Just one question. Do you need to sand the cover at all weather it be before primer or between coats? If so what grit do i need to use?
