Painting 2.2/2.4 Engine Cover?

I didn't sand the covers. I just went ahead and primed it, waited a few mintues, and put the spray paint... and by the way, I used regular ole spray paint, and so far it's still looks perfect

I used VHT paint in a few coats after priming. The photo looks alot lighter than the actual color, it's actually a strong royal blue. It's not quite as deep as arrival blue, but it's a nice compliment, especially to my Amethyst Metallic. I was going to under coat the black areas in red or yellow, but then I decided to go for a more subtle look.
I spent about 30 mins masking off the ecotec logo and the bits over the valves.

3. In your opinion, would a regular blue or a dark blue look better on a arrival blue cobalt?

You pull up on the back left hand side first, it's held in place by a rod that just snaps in and out... then you pull up on the front right hand side, same thing... and make sure the oil cap is off or it won't come off...
don't be afraid to pull a little..
Do you think the Duplicolor paint (that you can get in the actual car's color) will hold up under there? I've been under the hood after running the car pretty hard... it never felt like the plastic cover got all that hot. I think normal paint would stick just fine with some primer.
Afterall... if heat was an issue, would the cover be plastic or have foam padding on the underside???

Ive thought about painting mine as well....not sure what color tho. I would think that duplicolor would hold up...it doesnt really get that hot on that cover. I dont know what the temp rating is on the paint but im sure you could find out easily.
I would think that it would hold as well. Has anyone used the matched Duplicolor spray? Not necessarily just on this... but for other applications. Maybe it says something on the can about temperature tolerance.
PS. I'm asking this without any real effort into researching it, but while we're on the subject... where have you gotten the Duplicolor spray cans matched to the color of your car? I know I've seen Duplicolor in the local auto stores (AutoZone, Advanced, PepBoys), but not the Cobalt colors (or at least not Laser Blue Metallic). Is it special ordered through somewhere?
