Painting Calipers

Well spring is slowly but surely approaching and I've got a full list of work ahead for the SS. One item of which is painting the calipers. I want to match them to the factory paint but question whether the paint will hold up or not.

So, is there anything I can do to get the factory Sunburst Orange Metallic paint to work on my calipers like a high temp primer or clear coat?

That'd be really cool, but on all my cars, I've just used the dupli-Color caliper paint. Never had an issue. But if you have alot of brake dust, colored calipers will look dirty very fast. Black is always easiest.

Nope no real way, but go red or black. And get the paint on kind not the spray. ;-)

Paint on FTW. A kit is like 15 bucks. If you want to be real safe, buy 2. lol. I did. I can post a few pics if you'd like.

I've noticed a little scrapage on the edge of my calipers though. So going through the hastle of clear coating and stuff may be overridden if you need to touch them up...

IF you painy on, make sure you do them all the same time. The paint dries on the brush, and its hard to find another brush that works that well.

I would like to do this in the spring also.
But I don't want to take off the calipers Can that be done?
OR do I need to take them off the paint with the brush on Paint?

They are going to be red by the way

jackalope's calipers look awsome. i saw them a few months ago, i think he has the sport red paint job and the color matched brakes. you dont need to take them off, but it would be easier and you would do a better job of it.

I did mine three or so months ago.... dupli color is the most convenient way.. any brushable high heat (500degrees) will work...now your calipers dont get that hot but standard duplicolor paint only holds up to 120 degrees.

I put the car on jacks took the wheels off and painted the calipers with the paintbrush... No i did not take them off...it takes some time...a few coats...and some concentration. If your gunna rush then wait till you have more time. I let mine dry overnight...but I also have a garage. I did not clear coat mine, although I know some sugguest it. Also if you dont have a very steady hand practice painting something before you get to the calipers...you want your ride clean!! let me know if you got any other questions

I've had the blue duplicolor kit for about two months now. Damn winter.
I'm just waiting on a full sunny day to get out there and do it.

Ditto. Repainting my calipers black, 30% tint, intake. First and foremost.

Also, I don't know how many guys actually take their calipers off, but I've only ever done them still on the car. You can mask **** off, or just be real careful.

I'm going to try and do mine this weekend with the GM Factory color matched orange, just like I did with my wheels. I have heard that it will hold up to the temps just fine. If you want, I will post pics when I am done.

Thanks! Still haven't messed with them yet. The orange came out kind of shitty on the edges (wife taped them off) I just got them back the other night from her dad. He was going to find a way to tape off the bowtie so I could paint the rest black. He came up with a good one too, using clear tape so you can see where you need to cut the tape.

I just don't feel like firing up the whole air gun thing. I think I'm going to talk my buddy into using his airbrush to hit the caps up.

I'd love to get those done this weekend too.

Now for the lugs, I ordered some caps from colorlugs.com Hopefully, the black looks good enough...if not I will just paint them the black to match.

Is it possible to polish the stock ones? I think I have seen someone do this, he has those black momo rims and a rally yellow cobalt. Anyone know if you can polish them?
