Painting the dash

Well, as some of you know I posted a thread a few days ago asking how to do this.
Me and my girlfriend started on it. Heres what we have so far, pretty good for an hour or so. haha.

Here are the pictures, if anyone wants to tell me how they look.

I'll post pictures of them on the car soon.

Got the center piece next.

They pull off, but be careful. Then sand them down with 2000 grain sand paper. ( Can get it at autozone ) and will need alot, becouse they only sell them in small squares. Get flat black spray paint, I got krylon fusion paint for plastic. ( From wal-mart )

be careful putting them back on. the barbed tabs that hold them onto the dash like to move slightly while pulling off the trim pieces. and so when you put them back on those barbed clips won't be in the right position and the trim will be loose. and then its a bitch to get back off without ruining them.

Take off the passenger side first, then the driver side, then the center.

As your taking off the pieces, pull off the top part first, then shine a light down into it, and you should see the metal clasps. Then use a screwdriver to push down on them, and they should release. Then use a screwdriver to pry off the bottom half. It will make a poping noise, but mine didnt break. lol.

Thats how we did it.

We repainted them, and finished the center piece. Have them on the car tomorrow. How do they look ?

Also, figured why not do the door panel too.

Should have these finished in like two days, the paint doesnt want to sand off.

you don't have to sand it all the way down to plastic. just scuff it up with the sandpaper or scuff pad, use a plastic adhesion promoter, prime and paint.

It really isnt that tough anyway. We enjoy doing things on the car, and doing it this way, they came out great. The paint looks better then stock.

I know what you mean, it was like 30 here, and having to go outside to take the parts off, then back out after they were sanded to paint.

COLD. lol.

I should have waited till summer.

I got red now as well. I want to kind of tone it down a bit though and wrap it in CF.

The red looks great but it was just a little too much, just for me.

I made a post a LONG time ago, (probably back in late 05 or early 06) showing exactly where the tabs are.

I think I know what your talking about. It should have a little tab to lift up on, when you push in, then pull that up, it should pop up. I used a flat screw driver to push it in.

Yeah that's the part I'm talking about. I'll have to try that because I've been struggling with them. I have to sand those and then get those steering wheel bezels off... that looks like it's going to be a challenge

Any new pics? I am looking at starting mine today... the door handels and some of the trim are scratched. Im looking at changing to red! GF ordered me the brushed alum/red trim kits for under hood from MRZ so looking to keep the theme.
