Question

question:
isn't that difference in diameter seriously throwing off your speedo reading? (and also altering the mileage reported by odometer, and additionally making the computer MPG readings wrong)

Did the tire place goof in their math to replicate the same total diameter and circumferance? or did you specificly request that size... ?

they do fill up the wheel wells better, but the car seems quite high off the ground...

looks to me like the last pic, your tire is the wrong way for rotation, the tread is supposed to go the other way

When I put the tires on I measured the height of the fog light and a spot on the rear bumper near the license plate both before and after. The new wheels & tires raised the car less then one inch over all. Yes the computer that figures out mileage is off as is the odometer. I checked with the service department and made sure they could correct the computer for the new tire size and they can and will for $60-$75. I will have to change it again in October when I put the studded tires on. The studs are 225/45/17 these summer tires are 255/45/17. I did notice that I have lost a little bit of gas mileage overall, but the trade off for performance is well worth it.
The bottom line was I had these tires laying around while my Twin Turbo Stealth is in the "gym" getting pumped up. I bought 8 of those tires because they were priced right when they first came out. I had them laying around and decided to see if they would fit the cobalt. It sure appears they do!

You Guys are correct! I only had them mount 2 studded tires and 2 summer tires. I asked them to mount one left front and one left rear They mounted them to be either both rears or both fronts. I wanted to see fitment and look from the side. Good catch though! 05SDI

I found out recently that you can go into a Goodwrench shop and they can actually recalibrate your speedo with ease. They just plug into the computer and input the new tire size and the computer adjusts the speedo accordingly.

As for the tread being backwards, yup, it looks backwards to me too.

uh...think your new tires are way too big (by that I mean tall)......sorry but you asked.
How come you did that?

Also the new tires will weigh alot more then you old ones, increasing unsprung weight and deterirating the ride.

Well the main reason I used the 255/45/17 Fuzions was because I already had them. The 225/45/17 Perilli WinterCarving were bought for this car. I bought 17" rims that were light and inexpensive and would fit both the car and the tires I had. The wheels were about $79 apiece and weigh about 17 pounds. So yes the new wheel/tire combo is heavier. But not as much as one would think. Doesn't matter what one does to their ride it will not please everyone! I truly think by next summer I will have slightly smaller summer tires. But I do like the way these fill the wheel openings.
Thanks for your keen eyes and input.

mike_42 lol is that because I must be crazy to live up here in Alaska and so the crazy tire size fits me?

selfinfliction When I mounted the other 2, I made sure they were mounted as both a left and a right also.

Just to clear it up I took 2 mounted summer tires, (in the back seat) 2 mounted studded winter tires and floor jack (all in the trunk) to a parking lot. Then spent about half an hour putting each type of tire on each corner. I didn't drive with them, I just installed and reinstalled and reinstalled. If you look real close you might see there are only 2 or 3 lugs nuts on in some pictures. Once I was sure the Fuzions would fit I mounted and installed the next 2. No reason to spend $80 on something that will not fit! I agree they look big in the picture that you see the stock tire on the rear and the new tire on the front. But the other day I parked next to a stock Cobalt and took a picture from the rear... Oh man these tires look SO much nicer then those little bicycle tires I took off!
Oh and one last thing, the biggest difference in performance I noticed is how much nicer it corners. Way smoother and almost no tire squeal. Anti sway bars are next on the list.
And guys believe me you don't offend me by not liking what I got, that is what makes us unique, different opinions, different ideas and different tastes.

Question I like the Rims/Tires

I think tire/wheels look good. (Altough it does tend to make it look alittle tall).
I have a 05' LS too. Mine has the 16" wheels. Do you (or anyone reading this)
know if any tire manufacture makes a wider tire that will fit on the factory 16"
rims. Personally, I think the P205/55/16's look kinda skinny and would like
to replace with a wider tire.

i like the rims, but i dont like em on the car for some reason
the tires look good, but i think they are too big for a cobalt sedan, unless you plan on building it
