Has anyone had problems with certain cans of Plasti-dip?

I have had some major success with Plasti-dip,I painted my wheels, grill, etc... (all with black) and it all turned out great with no issues.

The other day I decided to try the new Blaze Orange stuff. The first thing I noticed was that the tip was different. Instead of the smaller cylindrical tip, it had the bigger button style tip (I'm assuming it's more ergonomic or something). I thought it would be a good thing. However, after the second coat, it started coming out kinda clumpy and bubbly, and not a fine mist like i was used to. This caused the latter coats to start drying with small holes in the paint (like bubbles imploding) and it was much more uneven. I tried shaking the can more and it didn't seem to help, it just got almost foamy.

I have bought a few cans since, and it seems like it only happens to the cans that have the bigger tip on them. The can of black Plasti-dip comes out perfect every time and it has the more traditional tip. I don't get it...

Is it a temperature thing? maybe those cans don't work well cold? Can you switch the tips of the cans?

This is pretty frustrating right now. I want to paint something with the white and orange plasti-dip but they are both doing the same thing.

 

Switch the tips and see what the outcome is

 

The cans should be 60-70+ degrees to spray correctly.

Its is 100% a temperature thing. Even when its 60 degrees out i had a little trouble spray the other day, threw the cans in a tub of hot water, warmed them up and they worked perfect. And do youself a favor and order the wide spray tips from Dipyourcar they are an amazing difference.

 

Heat the cans with a blow dryer for a misty spray. Make sure the dips are clean. Make sure to keep a consistent spray pattern.

 

Kiss the tip. No homo.

 

id have to agree with everyone else, while the tip your talking about may spray a bit different, its all a temperature issue with the cans. I suggest you spray in 60 degree plus weather, and if you cant use the suggestions above, i personally wouldn't use a hair dryer, but the warm bath of warm glass that the cans can sit in for a sec will fix that issude right up,good luck

 

turn your defrost on high heat and throw the cans on the dash, works great. I plastidipped in a garage about 40 degrees with no problems.

 

Thanks for the tips guys. I put the can that was giving me issues in warm water for a bit and it seemed to spray much nicer. as soon as it cooled off just a bit it was back to spraying crappily. Gotta keep em good and warm I guess, heh.
