Plastidip question

I am finally off tomorrow and doing my evo mod. I just checked the shipping status on my intake and it will be here tomorrow as well. My questions are

1. How many coats of plastidip do you do ? And how long between eatch coat

2. I have been dying for this intake and wanna put it on. My buddy is gonna help me at his shop. How long before I can drive again?

Thanks!!!

I did this yesterday

The thing you want to do is tape off the edges, and lay it think there. Then quickly (within a min or two) remove the edge tape to get a good straight edge. You might want to do the inside area first, and then lay it thicker on the edges, becauses it's much easier to touch up the inside than to re edge the outside.

If you do coats, wait like 15-20 mins between, and shake the hell out of that can of plastidip before you use it.

As for the intake, that an easy install as well. You should be driving same day.

Essentially one thick coat, yeah. Make sure the edges are pretty thickly laid though.it's much easier to touch out the middle.

But remember, if you mess up, you can just peel it off <3

The intake is easy, hour at the very most.

Do 2-4 coats. I'd recommend doing the first coat extremely lightly, almost as if 50% of it isn't covered. and then the second coat, go heavy and cover everything. Reduces bubbling, from my experiences.

If you leave the tape on there for every coat it'll start to bond to the tape and when you go to peel it off you won't have a clean edge. It works best if you peel the tape up while its still wet.

I did light coats. I also used a hair dryer to help it dry if you want to speed the process up lol.

You must only wait about 5-8 minutes between coats or the edge will never be straight. and either way PEEL SLOWWWWW, and have a razor ready just incase.

thats the only bad thing about plastdip, you almost have to rush to get the coats on, not allowing for the best possible finish, only applies when taping though.

OP if i had that color i wouldnt even touch it, i think that color looks great like that, but anyways with the plasti dip, like someone else said, tape of the edges, and begin by the middle and make your way to the sides. make sure you got everything good with no bubbles or drips. then while its still somewhat wet take of the tape carefully.

I wish I saw this thread earlier.

Did the evo mod last night and I left the tape on overnight while it dried. Went to go peel it off today and now the edges are all torn up.

i did a few heavy coats, if you have skill you can go along the tape with a razor so it doesnt come off with the tape.
