Question's about doing retro's

I plan doing retros for the balt in the coming weeks. The questions I have are:

what's the difference between the base model headlights and the ss? Planning on buying some base model headlights from rockauto.

What wattage should I get? I believe 35w should be fine for bright white projectors. I read somewhere 55w isn't needed.

I want the Gatling gun halos with projectors. Is there a kit for this? I don't feel too comfortable cutting wires and there a PnP kits.

What's the best procedure of sealing the headlights and what sealant to use?

That's all I have for now. Thanks in advance.

Base models have a clear lens, ss have a slight tint to them, Also pre 07 i think have the turn signal plastic lenses and the post 07 have amber bulb and no lens

I have 35w and is a huge upgrade over stock lighting, I don't think 55w is neccesary

Mkurley on here deals through theretrofitsource.com they have the kits you need
He got me a better price then I could get through that site myself

I used windshield sealant on mine to re seal, seems to work well

1. he's right about the base model VS. ss lights...

2. this is the simplest full kit you can buy and you can add halo's if you want...
Bi-xenon Morimoto Mini Stage III Kit (H1) - Complete Retrofit Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc

3. don't buy from Mkulrey, i personally have nothing against him but there has been a lot of drama regarding him and his customers lately which is not good...

4. it's honestly not that difficult to build your own set and the best how-to i've found is this one...
How To: MiniH1 Retrofits

5. you can also add sealant to that kit

pretty sure that answers everything

You might be better off with doing the MiniH1s if it's your first build but if you want a little bit more of a challenge consider doing some FX-R retrofits.

You can check out my How-To guide below:

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/how-...ics%5D-282150/

Also, nothing against Mkulrey but lately there has been a lot of unhappy customers. Would hate to see you get involved in that mess lol... so as stated above, I would recommend getting your stuff from theretrofitsource. That's where I got my stuff and their customer support is on point!

Thanks guys for the replies and info. I saw everything about mckurley and I was never planning on asking him to make me some. Anyone used the base model headlights to make retros? Mines on my balt seem pretty clear, but could be wrong. I don't believe the tint will matter much when I paint the inside housing.

I was not advising you to buy a set from mkurley I was advising you to buy the retro kit through him, and make them yourself .
I dealt with him about a year ago and had no problems. I can not speak about current issues with him as I have no dealt with him for a while.
The tinted lenses looks a bit nicer imo

2005-2007 headlights are all the same, SS or not.

08+ SS headlights have the slight tint to them.

My LT's OEM headlights have a slight tint to them as well. The TYC headlights I bought to do my EvoX-R retrofit with don't have a tint at all. Also, the reflectors in the TYC headlights are very brittle. I ended up swapping the reflectors out of my OEM headlights into my TYCs and bolted and epoxied my EvoX-Rs to them. I repaired the TYC reflectors and put them in my OEM headlights as spares.
