Questions about our front bumper?

On a 2007 SS/SC, is it possible to work with fiberglass on it? I think ours are made of urethane (correct me if I'm wrong), and I don't know what would be the best way to mold or fill in gaps.

I'm looking to shave the front emblem, and making the center grille bar smooth, instead of having the upper and lower portions that go with the chevrolet badge sticking out and screwing up the smooth line.

And do the front grilles already go with the contour of the chevy badge, or can I smooth out the grille bar and keep the ss/tc grille inserts?

I'm not the best at wording this, but I think somebody will get what I'm trying to say.

Thanks!

Front bumper is ABS to my knowledge, and fiberglass is a no-no. I know 3M makes a few products, I had filled the CHEVROLET indentation with on a Cavalier LS Sport rear bumper with before...however the product escapes me now. Sure someone with a bit more knowledge using these day in day out could speak up.

If you follow the directions to the letter it should work like a charm. I think that the grille insert is molded to fit the contour of the badge and that center bar as well. So you would have to modify the insert too. This was something i was thinking of doing to my car but changed my mind after a closer look. Theres quite a few hours of labour involved in modifying that insert. the center bar is easy enough though.

Ok this may be an entirely stupid question....Is there such a thing as plastic welding? Like taking scrap pieces off of a busted bumper and using it to patch sections on a new one before paint?

Yes you can but the Adeshives are more convenient In my own opinion. Also plastic welding is more reliable on poly urathane bumpers (yellow plastic) such as older mustangs or T-bird bumpers. Its not so reliable on modern recycled plastic bumpers that contain Poly-olefins, its difficult to get good adhesion. Besides, adhesive are much cheaper and more cost friendly for a one time mod! We tied a new product by evercoat called Multifix part#898 the other day and its very easy to sand and very strong and also bonds well.

my 2 cents
