Re-tinting taillights

I plan on Nightshading my taillights again but I want to know what to use to take off the old paint and clear coat. I would think paint thinner would work but is it safe to use? I'm going lighter this time around. Thanks.

i think paint thinner may damage the plastic on the lenses.

Supposedly if you spray a coat over the existing paint you can just wipe it all off

Use a very light coat of paint thinner with a rag near by to wipe it off right away. I let it set to long and it ate part of my lenses, but after tinting you can't see unless you look.
