Lightbulb The reason for darker & lighter SS rims...

The service guys dropped one of my rims while doing a tire rotation and put two nicks on one of the spokes.
Service manager agrees to pay to fix the problem and has my rim refinished. It comes back and it is not even close to my other three.
It turns out that when our rims were manufactured they all get sprayed black and then are sprayed with the silver coating hence the reason that different cars have lighter or darker shades.
Now the company doing the refinishing has agreed to fix their mistake. I actually like their mistake better than my other 3 rims and I have suggested to them that perhaps it would be easier to make the same mistake on my other rims than trying to match the factory finish pattern. I'll see what there painter says on Monday.
So it turns out that there are places where you can get your rims refinished cheaper than replacing, if anyone is so inclined.

Tiny, here is a picture of the difference in the rim shades. I am hoping they chose to make the other 3 match the rear one.

Rear definately looks lighter... i am not a huge fan of the dark finish so i'll vote for the rear color on all 4. my 2.4 is supposed to have polished wheels... i want to see them in person, seems like they'll be nice.

I think you'll definitely be happy with them. I checked them out the other night and I really like the polished look as well as the fact they're 17"...I'm sure you won't be complaining when you see them for the first time .

I definitely like the lighter look of the back one, it's not a huge difference but it would make yours slightly different from all the rest. Of anything though I'd be afraid that if they were to do the other three that they wouldn't all match exactly and then you'd be basically back to square one again.

Let us know how it goes.

That would really suck but I think seeing as they just did this last week it should be fairly easy for them to do again. I will post tomorrow night after I hear what they want to do.

oh, duh... look at the pic on the top left of the page under the words "forum jump". not a very large pic, but those wheels rock. i am thinking of buying them when my original tires need replacing.

Well the shop painter is not sure whick is easier to do, match the original 3 or the lighter one they already tried. So next Monday they will try to fix the lighter one and if that doesn't work he will do all 4. I guess I'll find out Monday evening.

I personally like the finish on the SS wheels better. The SS 17's look a lot shinier that the 18's on my SS/SC. I guess they do a darker finish on the SC. Why? I don't know. I prefer chrome finish.
