Question Replacing Shift knob Question

Yes, I know there are other posts that discuss this, but I couldn't find one that answers the specific questions that I have. I will deleate this when I am done if that helps. That being said;

I want to replace the shift knob. I know that I need a knob that has set screws to hold the shifter knob on sense the shaft is not threaded. (Right?) But how do I get the boot to stay up by the knob? I do NOT have the reverse lock out to hold it up there either. Thanks guys!

I thought the 2.2/2.4 knob was threaded. Like 95% sure that's the case.

no its not, the boot attaches to the bottom of the knob. you twist the boot ring at the base of the knob and slide the knob off. It comes straight off.

The knobs on these cars are junk. I should replace mine too... What did you replace yours with?

you have to pry each individual piece that grabs the shifter itself off all at the same time.. then just pull on it really hard. Thats what i did

I can get the old shifter off, but how to make the new one stay on and keep the boot up to it is the question.

On the 2008 ss/tc, theres a zip tie that goes through a loop inside the boot. You tighten it around the collar right below the lockout mechanism. I know you don't have a ss/tc but maybe its a ziptie. If you pull the boot up over the knob, u might see a part of the ziptie.

there's a plastic piece on the stock shift boot it attaches to, use that.

that piece isnt going to do any good on an aftermarket knob.

You are more than likely going to have to buy a new boot as well

you need to make some type of collar for the boot to sit into or above

if you can weld, maybe tack on a washer

NON of you guys have answered the OP's question. Which was,is there a replacement knob he can install if he removes the stock knob. And then reattach the boot.
And to answer his question, non that I know of. The knob would have to be able to work with the reverse lock out, and then have some sort of set screw from the side to keep the knob in place. So again to answer the OP since no one else seem to know how to read, NO. Not to my knowledge.

no reverse lockout on the ls (read sig)
yes...your only direct replacement option is the 2.4 shift *** with the silver top instead of black, i have done this.
Other then that you can glue or make your own threads to thread one on or get a short throw that has threads....or set screws

ya, I actually was asking how to keep the boot up by the knob, not if there is a knob that will work. I know how to get a knob to work, it must have set screws to hold it in place. Zip tie idea should work though thanks!

Haha. I find it funny that the one claiming everyone else couldn't read was himself the one who could not read.

right...your first question in the thread was about the shifter itself

Pro tip # 645:
put the question first then the extra bs and explanation
most people dont read it all...so if you want the help then you need to make it more clear what you are asking for

that and the actual trhead title is about replacing the shift knob not the boot....

thread title in relation to actuall question = fail

I read it fine, you question was pertaining to the knob and not the boot, anyhow good luck and and find a real mod to invest in other than a boot.

my question was pertaining to replacing the shift knob, I am not planning on changing the boot. If I replace the knob, how do i keep the STOCK boot up near the replaced KNOB. So I don't know why you say the title was not accurate.
