Retrofit questions
I'm working on my retrofit project at the moment and I have some questions that I couldn't find the answer to anywhere else...
The stock headlight assembly comes with a chrome projector bowl. Is it okay to paint over that with a different colour such as black or will that alter the light output?
I can't seem to find any 9007 adapter plates/rings on sale anywhere. Will my mini H1 projector setup be seated okay without them or are they are necessary?
What is the best way to remove that butyl OEM sealant from the lens? While taking apart my headlight assembly things got a little messy, so I need to clean that grey goo off.
Thanks for any input!

I read in the "Before you buy HID's" thread that you can't use aftermarket ballasts with retrofitted projectors. Does this mean I can't use my ballasts that came with my gen2 projector setup with my H1 mini projectors I'm installing?

Yea he means the plug n play ballasts that come with the projector housings are for a totally different type of bulb that's meant to just plug into the headlight housing like its factory. But once you get into actual retrofits that use actual hid projectors, they require an oe style hid bulb then you'll have to get a ballast that's made to power that type of bulb.

One more question. My retrofits are done and my project worked out nicely, but I ended up using one amber turning light from my old aftermarket projector set and one turning bulb from an OEM replacement set I had lying around. Now the one side that has the bulb from the aftermarket set stays constantly on and the other side from the OEM set is off. But both flash when the turning signal is on. So why does one stay light all the time while the other one doesn't?

Its more than likely the bulb is bad, they're cheap enough go pick one up from the parts store

Fixed that issue. I Replaced both amber lights with new ones from the part shop and Im good. Now another problem... I discovered my foglights are not coming on since I installed the projectors. I tried turning off the auto light setting to the manual low beam setting and I clicked the foglight button on the side and nothing. Any thoughts?

Update: Left amber turning bulb is out again, but turns on when the turning signal is activated. I took out the headlight assembly, replaced the bulb with a new one again and when I turned on the lights, it was still out. Frustrated I put the headlight assembly back in and this time when I turned on the lights both Amber lights stayed lit. That passenger side amber light stayed lit all of yesterday but this morning its back to being out. What is happening here? Also the fuse on the fog light is good.

Just for anyone following this thread, took out the headlight assembly during the weekend and with power on to both headlights, played around with the turn signal wiring. It flickered on and off and stayed ON once I pinched some wires. Yup. Time for a new headlight harness. But the fog light situation is the next issue to tackle.
