Scratch on my balt

So I come out to the parking lot today and find two fairly noticeable scratches on the front of my car. The one in the middle is pretty deep and its definitely through the clear coat. So I took it to a local body shop to see if they could fix it and they gave me an estimate of $440!! The guy said that the whole front bumper would have to be sanded down and repainted. He also said that it looks like someone backed into me. There are no dents or anything just 2 deep scratches. I'm wondering if I should dish out the money to get it fixed by a professional or just cover it up with some touch up paint. I'm really po'ed though because I just got the car 2 weeks ago brand new. Needless to say I will be parking away from everyone from now on.

Yea dude, that happend to my friend, a guy with a trailer hitch on his truck backed into him, then sped off, no license plate. He got it done for 300 bucks.

Needless to say Ive already got my car keyed because people at school dont like a 17 year old kid having a new car. *******, but i buffed that out and its barely noticable.

I manage a paint and body shop in Texas. The quote you were given is a fair price and then entire bumper cover must be painted to do it properly. They can do what is known as a "burn-in" which is where only a portion of the bumper cover is painted, but you will be able to see where they cut it off after about 6 months.

Please, please, please do not get suckered in to someone who tells you they can do it for $50 like MAACO. They do terrible work and you will be pissed. Pay to get it fixed properly or do not fix it at all. Just don't half ass it. You will hate yoursefl if you do.

Yeah, my car is in a college apartment parking lot, so theres always a lot of drunk kids walking around on the weekends. I'm surprised I haven't been keyed yet. I've already had someone throw beer on my car because when I came out one morning the windshield and hood was all sticky. Damn kids.

I'm confused....you call him a friend after he did that? What do your enemies do?

That sucks. I'm sorry to see that. I go to a university in CO and I always park in the 5th lot back...where you will see one or two other cars. Well I go hiking to my car after class the other day and there was somebody parked right behind me. As I got closer, it looked like that car was touching mine...so I started walking faster and got to where I could see that it was touching my car! I was so pissed. What an idiot. I just wanted to take a key to the side of their car but I held back. I pulled up to look for damage, and thank God, there wasn't anything but a tiny scratch because they had a plastic license plate holder. People are so disrespectful. Too bad you didn't know who the jackass was that did it so you could make them cough up $440. I personally would get it professionally fixed but I know its spendy. Does the insurance cover stuff like that?

If you have comprehensive coverage (which is included in "full-coverage) it will, but it may not make sense to make a claim if you have a $500 deductible. More importantly, insurance rates are based more on the volume of claims you make vs. the cost of your claims. For example driver A has one accident in a 5 year span causing $20,000 in damage but driver B has been in 4 accidents causing a combined $4000 in damage. Driver B has higher rates because he is considered a "higher risk" since he is more likely to submit another claim.

Yeah, I'm probably just going to pay for it out of my pocket because I don't want to make a claim. Car insurance rates in New Jersey are bad enough as it is anyway.

I hate people that are asses like that. When I first got mine, the people that lived above me poured red soda all over my car. A short time later, they had put a cigar out on my sunroof. I ended up moving because of it.

That makes since and deductibles are always brutal. It would be worth paying for it yourself and leaving the insurance out.

Is Victory Red a difficult color to match with the rest of the car? I know its difficult to blend in some colors, especially the ones that have a metallic look.

GM sent me a bottle of touch-up paint (Victory Red). If they didn't send you one, maybe you could request one from them. That way it's an exact match.
