Securing carbon fiber hood

Well i just ordered a vis evader 2 carbon fiber hood...just curious what is the best and safest way to mount and secure the new hood...hood pins on all four corners or use the factory hood latch and struts.

I have a lot of money into the hood and dont want to ruin it

If you are worried use pins.

Yeah... if you DO use hoodpins... you the good kind. Spend a bit of money and get some Aerocatch Flushmounts. They look good and they work well.

These guys carry them: Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies - Home Page

I would think you'd be fine.. That's just me though. I've never heard of a CF hood letting go while driving. That sounds like a quality control issue to me.

ive had a carbon fiber hood on my contour and it would wobble around like it wasnt tight when at highway speeds...so i dont want it to crack or anything

how could it be quality control if its staight from vis's website not ebay

That's weird.. I don't, know I would think that the quality of their "OEM" latch should be questioned if you need pins to hold it down.. Considering VIS is a highly respected company I would think the opposite, but hey, I've never owned one. Just have buddies with them.

Well ive heard that if you use the hood struts on a carbon fiber hood it pushes the side up kinda like bowing it out around the sides..is that the same with the factory latch or should i just swap it over to the new hood...

Sometimes the stock latches arent strong enough to hold the hood sometimes so just be careful. It will be fine for driving around town but on the highways if I go above 80 my hood starts to 'float' like no joke. All that moving around pulls on the latch and weakens it.

yes Aerocatch is the way to go. However also get the JDMpassword aerocatch mounting plates.

give the latches a even grab around the whole latch. also makes for a cleaner install.

I had a buddy with a CF hood on his STI. It let go when he was doing 140mph on an old country road. Car completely wrecked and ended up in a ditch.
Moral? Get hood pins.

Lol, definitely not a sir there.

I have never had any issues with mine, and have had it for over 6 months

No wobbles, no issues at high speed, etc etc

Only don't leave the gas shock on there, you will bend your hood out lol

shhhhhhh I'm not trying to get e-humped like all the other attention ****** on this site

Who made your hood? I think when it comes to carbon its kinda hit or miss when it comes to fitment. Mine is like 95% perfect but just that small section that allows air to get under there is what causes the movement but luckily I'm never on the highways that often.
