shift knob.........

so driving around the other day the shift pattern on my knob fell off.... right at about the same time my sunroof bezel (piece around the switch) broke off.. real kicker is my car is about 400 miles out of warranty when this happend.. my question is can i change my shift knob to a different one with the reverse lock out or do i have to change the whole shifter to switch knobs.? thanks in advance.

I work at the dealer and a lot of tims people have problems with **** when they are just out of warranty. The dealer can fill out these things called Goodwill Warranty Forms if they feel it is close enough to warranty period. See if you can get a dealer to do that for you...maybe get some new parts out of GM :P

I changed my shift knob after i found it in the back seat.Seemed to happen when its a hot day. i bought a shift knob and had to modify the plastic ring you use to pull up for reverse. all i did was take the boot off and sand down the ring a bit. it worked great and no more problem . get the knob with a universal fit caps and set screws.
