Shifter *** Prob

hey I need to know how to take my shifter *** off, I'm just putting a diff one on. I thought the one in the car screws off but it dont and thats how my new one goes on. Can anyone help me?

pull the top (1-2-3-4-5-r) thing off. the there is a hex screw. after that pull.

If your new one threads on, your going to have to tap the shifter lever to get the new knob on. The stock shaft doesn't have threads
