SS Steering Wheel..?

I'm guessing so, but would the HHR SS / Malibu SS three spoke steering wheel be a plug-n-play situation onto our cars? I love the look, and the white stitching would go awesome with my Recaros..

Some people have swapped and I'm very curious as to what's required because I would LOVE to do this.

That'd definately look really good.. But there's not alot of them out there so you probably couldn't get one very easily on eBay and the dealership would probably rape you..

No, all '07's and up came with 3 spoke wheels as opposed to 4 spoke ones for the '06 and earlier.. I didn't know if the regular SS 3 spoke ones have white stitching.. Do they? If so, I can just get one of those and replace just the large center piece.. Because you can't replace just the center circle.. You have to replace the whole thing..

not worried about the connectors, the airbag ones are the same, if the splines line up, i can work with the audio controls.

If you want the wheel like the HHR SS has just order up the Cobalt SS wheel(go to a dealer and ask for the steering wheel for a Cobalt with body code "AP", then order it from GMPD.com it should be like $225 tops), its the same exact steering wheel, yes it has the white stitching. Ive got on on my LS. Its a simple bolt on if youve got a steering wheel puller. If you want the SS emblem youre gonna need to buy an airbag.

Maven what is this steering wheel puller you speak of? Can't just take a few bolts out and pull the wheel off?

Wheels can be different.. At my dealership though, I know they'd do something like this for me.. But if you can't, anyone know what's up..?

Im curious because I have 2006 car. I can live without the controls but I definately would need the airbag/horn to work. If all that's required is the hardware then that's an easy swap.

NO.... youre probably loking like $600 easy. You need the wheels which is about 225 and then the AIRBAG, which I dont remember the part number so I cant check on proce right now, bu there is a USED on Ebay for $468 right now. And youll see that new style bags almost never go for less than $375

No, the wheel is pressed on by the nut, once you remove the nut you have to use a puller to remove. You should be able to rent one from a parts store. They look like THIS youll need the top two tools, the "L" shaped puller legs are important(yes I know if you search youll find guys that whack the coulumn with a mallet or an impact hammer, but this is a surefire way to destroy a bearing a the steering column torque sensor)

Yeah a dealership will absolutely have someone who can do it for you.

If youve got a 2006, youll need the wheel AND the airbag, but youll also need the steering column clock spring, or "SIR COIL" its the part that lets all the electrical function of the wheel work while you turn the steering wheel. 06's use a different connector for the airbag.
This "coil" is well under $100, and once the wheel is off only requires some snap ring pliers and patience.

Most dealers probably WILL NOT install the new wheel, bag and coil on a 2006. Just covering their ass.

You can do this at home if youre mechanically inclined and get that special puller I mentioned.

If youve got a 2006 the DIC buttons on the wheel wont work.

Yes I had the three spoke rubber wheel with only DIC controls.

I put on the 3 spoke SS wheel with DIC, cruise and radio controls. And wired it all up to work, only way you can tell its not factory is because some of my wire colors are different than stock

You can upgrade to the 3 spoke dan. You need the wheel, the airbag, and the airbag "coil" in the column. Its only one more step and one more part than the 07 guys. Only thing is that the DIC controls on the wheel wont work because yours are on the dash.(that could be fixed though )

If you swap enough pats you can turn any Co balt into any other,

Technically couldn't I just grab the wheel and airbag from a wrecked one if it never exploded? Would the cruise control and radio buttons still work?

Now we are talking. GM parts hookup ftw!
