Stock headlamps really weak?

I never noticed it till I drove in my friend new subaru impreza is low beams are like my high beams. I have stock headlights and bulbs...is there a way to make them brighter? I know HID kits but I know absolutely nothing about that same thing with foglights, any help is appreciated!

bump

They will run you 250'ish range. Projectors are easy to install if you know some basic electrical work. The reason, is cuz you have to hook up the halo's and anything else you want to run during your daytime running lights.

The brightest Kelvin for H.I.D.'s are 6,000k.

Even though you can run H.I.D.'s in stock housings, I dont recommend it.

I wouldn't....

HID's are nice.... Projectors are nothing but expensive trouble in a box. Generation 1 throught the last one made. Lower and "more focused" light than stock. Less overall visual output and lumination. They DO look good in the daytime, but that won't cure the problem you want cured. Water leaks, LED and halo burnouts, some factory wiring cutting/splicing. Read on here VERY CAREFULLY before investing in them. They are a LOT of used for sale, for a reason.
Before I bought, I would consider a (reasonably) higher output 9007 bulb with stock headlamps and invest and extra 20-30 in the heavy duty headlamp wiring harness, all plug and play, for extra insurance. Just my opinion. You have to decide what's good for you....

For bulb sizes for your car, check this site out:

http://www.sylvania.com

And as for plug and play hid's, all you do is mount the ballast (ignitor box) and plug the harness into the stock socket.

For much more info on H.I.D.'s, check this out:

Yeah, if you do go this route, make sure you put the bulb in right. Because those bulbs usually run a higher wattage than your stock halogen's. So you don't want to burn anything in your housings. On my old car, I accidently melted my plastic socket ring.

Yeah, you can use hid's in stock housings. Just that the light can be to bright to on coming traffic and might pull attention from cops. Thats why projectors "project" your light out put to the ground instead of all over.

The ballast is a lil ignitor box that lights the H.I.D. bulbs with the gases that are inside the bulb. You can mount the ballast anywhere in your hood thats not to close to any extreme heat. Either drill a hole, or find a screw spot or use double sided tape?

Any other questions? And dont worry about asking on here dude. If you really dont know, cobaltss is all about helping.

To get projectors or not to get projectors. Whew, that is a very debatable subject to many.

I have projectors, and they work great. Im happy with them. But like mentioned above, they do have drawbacks. Like some of my halo's dont work anymore, and my lights do tend to fog up after I wash my car with the under body wash. But wherever you get the projectors, they're all going to come from the same place. OVERSEAS. So I guess buyer beware.

Its better to buy projectors if you dont want to draw attention, want a better look for your car or want to beam the light pattern in front of your car.

I put one of my ballast on the left side of my passenger side, and the other one, under my front grill. Under where the caution sticker for the engine cover.

What exactly is the halo? Where on your passenger side, is it just like wires that go to them?

You only replace the ballasts if you have trouble igniting the bulb. But if you wanted to get a different temperature (color) bulb, then all you do is buy the new bulbs and swap them out. No need to pay 150 bucks just to switch kelvins.

You can get H.I.D.'s from anywhere. I bought mine from some Chinese man in a car audio electronics store. The vendors on cobaltss have H.I.D.'s for sale too. You can also buy them from ebay. But those bulbs are cheap. I always hear bad things about ebay kits.

The plug in a play kit, like the ballast I showed you on the bottom of the page 1, then it takes a couple of minutes. The only hard part is mounting the ballast, which really isnt that hard, so you get the idea.

Yeah, there is a how to on "how to replace the halo's. My projector halo's are just one white led.

The projectors are fairly easy if you know what you are doing. Just wiring up your halo's and anything else you want changed to run with your day time running lights.

Same thing goes for fogs. They are a different bulb number though. So of course you would have to buy a different bulb kit for your fogs.

Here goes a chart of the colors/temps:

But different company's color per temp may vary.

Thanks for the chart. Do they come with instructions on how to put the projectors in and how do you wire them to the daytimes? So on the chart to the left would be brighter? Do you have HIDs on your fogs?

I sure hope you are not suggesting putting HIDs in stock lenses. This would be VERY WRONG to do.

HIDs in stock lenses do nothing put create more glare for oncoming vehicles, and personally look like s**t.

A projector retrofit on your stock lenses is the best way to go. Or buy a set of projector lenses and put HIDs in them. Again....DO NOT put HIDs in your stock lenses.
