Stock Headlight HID pics

So guys I've had my HID's in my first gen projectors for a year now and they blow. The cutoff line is terrible, its a nightmare aligning them, the light leaks like crazy, theres a giant black hole on the right side of the road now. The halo LEDs are a pain in the ass to swap out. Im sick of it and I think Im just gonna put my stockers in and put the HIDs in so I can actually see better then when I had halogens.

Yeah I know, its bad, people will be mad, but I dont care anymore.

Does anyone have pics of what it looks like with HIDs in there stock housing? Is it a big improvement? (I wouldnt know since I got HIDs with my projects and never saw a difference other then color)

Stock lights + HID's =

Retrofit or look into the 4th gen projectors.

There is no doing it right. You can minimize glare but the true light output doesnt seem that great. Ive seen numerous cobalts with hid's in stock housings. Only 1 ever looked decent and didnt seem to have a massive amount of glare.

I had projectors for 2 months and sold them because of the shitty cut-offs and projection. I say go with HIDs in the stock housings. You asked for PICTURES not comments on whether or not you should put HIDs in stock housings. Since these cars are so low already I've never had anyone high beam or flash me. Im sure it doesn't bother anyone, and damn, what a improvement in output from the projectors.

Don't get me wrong ... Factory projectors KICK ASS!

Trust me they glare up bad. Ive bright several cobalt owners who have had them. Maybe if you adjust the stock housings down but even then it just scatters the light. Its nowhere near as good as even a decent ebay projector. Though the cut offs ive seen on the GEN 1's is horrible. Look up the cutoffs on the Gen 3s and Gen 4's.

Look out for the retrofit police! They'll swarm a thread like this like a bank robbery. But I've had them in since almost the day I got this thing...as long as you aim them...you won't blind anyone. I'll try to get some pics up if I have time tonight when it gets dark. And yes...it is an astronomically huge improvement over he stock piles of ****...the stock bulbs should be considered a hazard at night they are so dim.

Side note: I am thinking about getting the 4th gens because FINALLY...a company made aftermarket headlights without screaming "hey I wish I was a BMW or an Audi!"

Might as well just put halogens in and drive around with your high beams on........same difference to the people you are blinding.

They don't shine in other drivers eyes, and you can see so much better in the dark and rain. I have HID's in my fogs too. And, NO, I'm not lowered

^^This...I've seen my car come at me multiple times and have seen my buddies balt SS with 8ks in the stock housings drive at me many times and there's no glare or blinding light or anything. The only people that hate the idea of HIDs in the stock housings are the people that spent money on projectors.

^^ I agree! There are no problems with HID's in our stock headlamps at ALL! I had my HID's in my Cavalier and I had one person high beam me and they were in a truck. I have Bixenon HID's so I high beamed him! LOL Wonder how he felt... My Cavalier was lowered almost 2 inches t the time.

I've never had one person high beam me in the Balt. Our stock headlamps are VERY well made, almost like GM knew people were going to put HID's in them so they made them work with them fairly well.

do you realize how high beams work? there are two filaments in a bulb and the "high beam filament" is in the focal point while the low beam filament is a little out of the focal point to make it not shine as much. same voltage, same wattage. its just aimed differently. HID's aimed correctly in cobalt housings will not blind people.

I say just go for it. I don't know about the 4th gens, they look good but Im not wasting my time/money with aftermarket projectors anymore. Im happy with my HIDs in my stock housings. I've done NUMEROUS HID installs into stock housings. None have "melted", no ones been high-beamed or pulled over. However, they were all 6k.

I'm looking at the DDMTuning kit for my STOCK housings. What size would i need? I think its the 9007 for stock right? Is it really worth it running hi/low for $20 extra, because wouldn't they be bright enough with just the lows? How hard would they be to install / return to stock?

^ Extra 20 for high/low would be worth it imo.

The low IS more than bright enough (far brighter than the stock lights) but I am dying to get the highs just to FLASH BACK at the ***** that flash me hahah

HID's need block off plates to give a clean cut off, regardless of where they're placed in the housing.

Either way, illegal as all hell and annoying as ****.
