Stock shifter question

Has anyone on here removed their stock shift knob on their LS/LT 5spd, or is it molded to the shifter? If so, how'd you do it? I am sick of cleaning stuff out of the writing and grooves on the stock knob and want to change it to a aftermarket/smooth one. I am not looking to change out the whole shifter. Any help is very appreciated.

pull the boot down and look at the bottom. there are little clips that hold the plastic knob to the metal shifter. you have to pry them all off but be careful not to break them cause once you do it isnt going to stay on there well anymore. Anyway when you get them all pried out then just pull real hard and it will come off. Its a little bit of a pain in the ass but it will work.

the way that i did it was take pennies or something to wedge under them to hold them out cause i found it nearly impossible (maybe mine was just a bitch to get off) to get all the clips pried out at the same time.

Hope that makes some sort of sense man and i wasnt too confusing.

Thanks man. So did you just re-use the clips/tabs from the stock knob? What kind of shift knob is that?
