Sts + momo?
Sts + momo?
I have a Hurst Short Throw and was wondering if any MOMO shift knobs will fit? I'm pretty sure the answer is no because of the reverse lockout but I just wanted to ask.
Not 100% sure about the Hurst sts. But I have a Momo knob on my B&M with the reverse lockout, so I don't see why not. Just search, they sell most styles of their knobs in standard, or reverse lock-out.
I'll dig up some pics of my set-up

Mounted on the B&M sts, sat too high for my liking, soo

I got medieval, and trimmed the B&M by this much (lemme know if you have questions, I shortened the main shaft by a similar amount) and the reverse lockout still works, but it's well concealed
voila, much better

Should be the same deal for the Hurst, or any other sts

See I've heard of people having the MOMO knobs but I thought I read somewhere that the Hurst couldn't take a different knob and now I can't find where I read that and I couldn't remember the reason why. This was also like 2 years ago so maybe they came out with something since then.

Just need to see some pics and we'll get it figured out for ya. If you can get the knob that it comes with taken off, snap some pics for me and I'll tell ya what you have to do. I can pull my Momo off, and take some measurements on it and my B&M. where there's a will there's a way
Cut the outer shaft first, then measure the amount you removed, and cut the same amount from the main shaft. Toss the shift knob back on and you're golden,
Again though, you don't hafta cut it, the knob will fit as-is. But I wanted mine to sit on top of the boot. Just make sure the knob you buy is a reverse lock-out specific one.
EDIT: just dug up some pics of the Hurst, I see no reason why the same thing I did wouldn't work for you

looks like the mechanisms are all the same, so you should be good to go with the same process I outlined for mine. I don't see a spring on this pic, so I don't know how the reverse lockout works on the Hurst though. On my B&M, there is a spring that sits on top of reverse lock-out collar, under the shift knob, so the lock-out pops back down after you lift it up.
the only other issue you may have (if you cut the overall length down) would be if the inner shaft diameter is too large to fit into the new knob (hard to tell from looking) but even if it is, you could just remove a bit of material with a dremel until the new knob presses on.
Lemme know if you have any questions at all
your logic?
If I owned that sts, I would have cut it down for the exact same reason.
The short throw part is what occurs below the boot. from the pivot point up is essentially cosmetic. All the magic is in the lower workings.
None of them sit much lower than the stock shifter (if at all), so no matter what brand I bought (Hurst, B&M, TWM, etc) I would have cut it down so that it sat flush on top of the shift boot, that's what I wanted.
I went with B&M, because of their reputation, and they had the most significant reduction if shift throw from what I had read. I'm happy with it, the build quality is top notch. That and the Hurst wasn't available when I bought mine.
Thank you, and DO IT
and never look back.
You wont be disappointed. And you'll be able to use your cup holders with cups in them, lol. At stock height I was always smashing into beverages.

Logic?
Well, my reasons.
MY reasons.
1. Looks nicer.
2. Also had great rep.
3. I am 100% happy with it.
I mod my car to look nice, and a shifter that small looks bad IMO.
Plus, the revese lock out is important to me.

2) me too, but B&M > TWM in my honest opinion
3) me too
My reverse lockout still works, and as a bonus it's hidden beneath the boot.
How do you like your stock height sts when you have cups in your cup holders? And don't give me that "I don't allow any in my car" it's just a cobalt, and I'm sure your girl, or friends (if applicable) are getting sick of having to hold their cups on the way back from Taco Bell/McD's etc.
function & form = win win
I also like expensive things, like your Dual subs
here's my "cheap" interior.

I do own a hacksaw, and just about every other tool required to do almost any job you could think of on MY car/house/etc. You probably still live with your parents and are one of those punk kids who doesn't know how to get his hands dirty. I take pride in doing things myself rather than paying someone else to do it.
Judging by this thread or this one you shouldn't be working on cars. Do yourself a favor and don't embarrass yourself any further, friendo.

^^ i own the twm and i agree with you SS33... I actually want to make my twm shorter like yours... i got my twm knob custom powdercoated "silver leaf" to make it follow my interior better, but i REALLLY REALLY wanna make it even shorter in height. If i sent you pics and a layout, do you wanna maybe give me a walkthrough on the process i would do.. The twm setup is alot different, and my head hurts when i try to figure out how to shorten it with the reverse lockout still there

And it just might involve a *gasp* hacksaw
OP - Sorry for the mini-rant up above, but something about the way Cobaltssdude came across just really irked me, lol
im like you. Id rather customize it to how i want it. Im a young man (20), and i dont mind getting down and dirty for this bad boy haha.. Ill load some pics up tomorrow and pm you.
I dont have Dual subs? I have infinity?
I have a cardomain to proove that.
Everyone is going to see things different.
Bottom line, You dont like my car, and I dont like yours.
Thats what makes the world go round.
Back to the OPs question.

Shorter shifter = win IMO
I was never trying to to say the Momo knob was better than anything else, it's just what I bought because it matched the pedals and floor plates that I wanted. I actually prefer the look and feel of the stock shift knob to anything else I've seen put in Cobalt yet. Kinda wish I wouldn't have sold mine. But I'm still happy with the way my set-up looks.
If anyone can get some pics of the TWM set-up with the knob/and boot off I'll let you guys know what I see.
Nope, that's the real deal, hand laid 5.7oz Carbon Fiber 2x2 twill

I can respect that. And that was my whole point from the get go, until cobalssdude pissed me off and I went on rant, lol.

im still undecided on what to get because of being intimidated by the work necessary to do it.. that and the 200-250 price tag. lol
