Tinted Windows Annoyance
Tinted Windows Annoyance
I had a guy I know tint my windows back in December and he did a great job... although after taking a closer look at it I realized that the rear window near the top has many small defects in the tint. They are not full on air bubbles so they cannot be smoothed out. I called the guy and he said that is a very common problem with GM cars because of the bumpy pattern at the top of the tint. I was just looking for some input on the best way to solve the issue and I am leaning towards removing the top section and spray painting over it black. I heard this is the most common solution. Any input is appreciated. IE what type of spray paint I should use.
Vinyl looks like ****. They make a special glue for the dot matrix and if your tinter knows what he or she is doing this won't be a problem. Most places are too damn lazy and just slap the tint over the dots and it looks like dog **** in a month or so.
They can get it to lay perfect at the top of the rear window. They should know about the balsa wood trick.
Your tinter is correct though, some GM cars can be a pain in the ass. For instance, the Corvette for a number of years has the same problem in the rear window.
Easy solution, get a veteran tinter.

Yea I'll try and post up a picture. He has been tinting windows for almost 15 years, its just in the middle of Detroit winters no one wants to stay outside for more than an hour, ie I got a lazy ass rear window. He said that spray paint would look the best and that he had done it on a few other balts and also a few corvettes. Still curious, any input is great.
He did the tint in his garage... which was freezing, and the vinyl sounds like a good idea ill look into it some more. Couldn't beat the price 140 for all windows done. good quality tint as well.
does nobody read my damn posts? post #8.
they CAN get it to actually lay right. I had a talk with the owner of a locally very well known professional tint shop. This guy is often seen in his shop doing work, and has an exclusive contract with a local Benz dealer for tinting.
The first time I went in, I had this very issue coming out. Vinyl was a suggestion of the newer tint installer. So I made my 2nd appt, showed up and happened to talk to the owner and the owners wife. After he looked at it, he informed me they could get it right without vinyl. which reminds me, **WTF** spray paint? it'd work, but dammmmn that's crude and cheap.
i paid about 200 for this tint job though. if you take it to the higher quality local tint shop you MAY be able to get them to do the fix for you, at a discounted rate of course. vinyl would work....but c'mon, if ya can get the tint done right why not?

Yea im not sure why he suggested spray painting... obviously thats why I brought it to the forums before I have my car windows a new paint job. Ill either have him reapply it, or just do the vinyl.
