compared to a 205/55/16, that's on my car, 225/45/17 is about 3/4" wider and diameter .09" taller, sidewall height about .4" lower. Looks like a good choice to me.

yeah with the 16" wheels and 205/55/16 tires, 225/45/17 is the best tire choice when going with 17s. It will have the least effect on the speedo and is just slightly taller than the stock tire. 215/45/17 is a smaller diameter than stock.

I don't think you will rub though, some other guys have been putting crazy tire sizes on that are much larger than that and don't rub. I will be going with this tire size as well when I pick up my Rota Slipstreams.

Though I have yet to confirm it, with regards to the speedometer correction, I have read that you can go to your chevy dealer and they can correct the meter with a simple computer update. They don't have to adjust the meter, they just tell the computer the actual tire size and then the car computes your speed and displays it correctly.

Further, I would also agree with 225/45 for a 17" wheel. 225/40 for an 18". I would not go with a 19" wheel, but you can.

Another thing, if you want to do any aftermarket brakes, most kits require at least a 17 inch wheel.
