Under Hood Blanket

Don't know if anybody posted this but Crate Depot has a under hood blanket that has the SS stamped on it. Looks good.

Other than the SS on the blanket, is there really a need for it?

I certainly would not want it keeping my engine warmer than it already is

Take it out, take some paint, paint SS on the underside of the hood. Problem solved....total cost...10 dollas...or 10 Junior Bacon Cheeseburgers

Will it damage the hood or the paint to remove that underhood blanket?

That's my concern, heat damaging the paint on the hood.

not sure really.....being its right over that hot engine.....unless they use a specific high temp. paint on the hood...i would have to say that remvoing the blanket will eventually have long term effects on due to extended heat on the hood.....(in excess of 120-130 degrees)

I had the blanket removed on my 2003 Sunfire for 3 years, no paint damage on the underside of the hood. (2.2L Ecotec)

The blanket is also used to smother a fire if one starts under the hood. The plastic retainers melt, and the blanket drops to smother the fire. Its a safety feature.

Looks great... but I don't really want anything to keep heat in.

Do you notice any performance differences without it on?

Well, if every 100 lbs = .10 secs, then if the blanket weights 10, then you would shave .01 secs!

Not worth it to take it off, especially if a fire were to break out I suppose.

well sounds like another thing to check every week to clean...white SS under your hold won't last very long.

Dude, put down the crack pipe and step away. Anyone, who knows anything, about any modern car knows that the blanket is for fire retardant purposes. If you don't, take a basic auto courseand ask the instructor if you don't believe us.
