Where's milage stored in the cluster?

I'm thinking about buying a new cluster to do some LED mods on. Is the millage stored in a chip on the cluster, or is it stored in the computer and delivered to the dash LED?

I ask because all ebay listings say "Cluster is 32,000 miles" etc. and I'm unsure if that's where my car will start off if I swap it in.

For sure stored in the computer not the Cluster

I believe it's in the BCU actually because when changing ECUs you don't lose mileage.

I was thinking so, but was confused because the eBay auctions list the last milage the cluster was at. I suspected it was digitally read from a computer.

Thanks.

The sellers on eBay list the mileage because they don't realize the mileage isn't stored in the cluster itself. But it's perfectly safe to swap out, I changed my 2.4 over to an SC cluster and the mileage corrected itself as soon as I turned the car on.
