Window Tint in winter? good or bad?
Window Tint in winter? good or bad?
Well i just bought a new car and im the type of person who feels like tinted windows basically make the car..and i love the extra privacy.
unfortunately, i have heard from a few different people that its not a good thing to get your windows tinted in the winter because they may not dry properly or as good as they would in the summer time when its warmer out...im just curious if their is any truth to this or not..cuz if their isnt, i'll definately be getting it done asap rather than waiting till april.
so, is it ok to get your windows tinted in the winter (cold weather) or is it better to wait till warmer weather comes?

Whats your temperature like? I had mine tinted in 5* celcius and it dried perfectly fine. As long as the shop brings the car in, allows the windows to warm up to room temperature, apply tint, and let it dry in shop for a hour or so ... also try not rolling the windows down for 3 days atleast.
The only real issue you may have is the dot matrix. Some shops say there's no way to tint over it. I'd use a different shop if they tell you that.
I had my Cavy done in the winter and nothing wrong at all.
Always helps to have a heated garage though.

The Dot Matrix is possible, but its a bitch to do, simply because of the lack of window to stick too

on my SS, the tint goes up about an inch of the dot matrix and stops. Most people put black vinyl over the top 75% and call it a day.

I had mine tinted when it was 5 degrees F outside.
Tint it, park in the sun or a heated garage, and when you drive make sure you drive with the defroster on the rear window and the top vents aimed towards the side windows to help dry them out.
That was 2 years ago, and I still have yet to have a problem.

i did my last winter here in chicago and its perfrectly fine to this day. i just black on the dot matrix..... main reason being is that when i look out my rear view mirror you really dont see much that high up anyways so i figured viynls just fine.
Don't worry about it, i've tinted cars in well below freezing temps, inside my warm shop of coarse, but then sent them out when done and no problems. As for the dots, most shops should be able to deal with them, just ask. I personally don't use the vynil or the glue method on cobalts, they can be done perfect with just a good prep and a little heat once applied...
I have crazy dark tint on my car, and it makes it a pain in the @$$ to try and see out my rear window, when there is a haze on it from frost. I want to peel my rear tint, and re-do it at something just above factory (35-40% I believe is factory?)
The dot matrix is a bitch and there was only one place around here so i got it done but they fucked up with the matrix, i srill have yet to put a black vinyl brow over the back, but it doesnt look bad so im not too worried.
i got my car originaly tinted by a guy who isnt that known bc the shop he works out of is small and when i got my windwows re tinted at a more bigger shop the were impressed how the dot matrix were done because its tinted pretty much perfect. i saw the work that shop did on my buddys cobalt and the dot wasnt tinted as good as mine came out
as far as geting tint done in the winter it doesnt matter really. as long as its done inside youll be fine
i got my tint done in febuary

So many people think going to a big shop means better work, WRONG. Alot of times the tinters at the big shops don't give a ****, it's not their name on the line...
