Wood Grain Dash..?!?
Hey guys,
I was wondering yesterday, after driving a 2002-style 3-Series, if anyone was running the wood-grain dash trim kit that came on the first few years LTZ model.. You can still buy it through GM.. And I don't mean on a tan interior car.. I'm talking black SS interior.. You know, to be different.. lol I noticed this because the 3-Series can be had in gloss black, silver, or wood.. Like many of us do with the black or some other color.. Just seeing and doing a pic request if so.. lol Considering..
Thanks!

Here's a rough rough idea of what it would look like on tan interior obviously.

I dunno if it would look good or not with black interior.

See, right now I already have everything blacked out. I have the all black interior, double-din screen, black ac controls, black s/c gauges, black afr gauge in pillar, black a and c pillars, gloss black dash trim, gloss black shift knob trim, gloss black shifter area trim, etc.. So essentially I'd have all that bit just with the wood dash pieces.. I think it'd look pretty decent.. Especially for being the only one to do it..
I have wood all over my Olds and I like it.. haha
I thought it'd look really dope to get either the Burberry pattern air-brushed on the trim or to get the Louis Vuitton pattern on it.. I like the semi-tacky but baller ****.. Hence my intake being white, my strut bar being purple, and the valve cover to be metallic teal.. lol

Do the woodgrain, if your blacked out with nice gauges and **** itll look dope. Unless....
you wanna look like everyone else!!!!
You could do what i did with my valve cover, and do a woodgrain effect on your dash pieces but instead of it being brown it can be whatever the **** color you want and have a cool look

^What you mean my valve cover? Its the magic of Saran Wrap and paint. Gives paint a cool effect and gives ya something different if you dont want one solid color. The different ways you use the saran wrap brings it from woodgrain, to a more random marble look. Scrunching it up and blotting is marble, while laying it smooth and flat over the paint and lifting will leave longer patterns that look like wood

well its better if you use real paint and a spray gun, never done it with spraybomb but its do-able im sure. Spray a base color, like black, let it dry. Then spray your next color (lets say we want wood) which is brown, put 1 heavy ass coat on it, take saran wrap and stretch it tight and lay it over the surface. then lift it off, give it some dry time, then (if i was using a real paint gun and clear etc.) I would spray a brown candy over it in clearcoat, or just some brown basecoat mixed in clearcoat.
For spraybomb you gotta try different things since you can only use clear over the top and cant mix anything. But give it a shot in your garage one day. take a pice of wood or metal and just see how it comes out

OP.. I apologize in advance for these douche bags convincing you to make the wrong decision... I really don't think wood grain dash would look good at all. You'll find out soon enough if you try it.

I was actually considering it too. The rest of my car doesn't match that kind of theme though, so I have something else I'm working on right now. If it doesn't turn out like I hope it will, woodgrain may be the backup plan.
