Which tires have you been running?
I'm using 255/40 17 R-S3's. They're awesome during the summer, but at last weekends event, it was in the low 50's and I was sliding all over.

In SCCA terms:
Below current UTQG = r comp
Above current UTQG = street tire.

R comp is not an additional thing to the treadwear rating.

Direct from SCCA
Here are the rules for next year as i continue to try an make a tire choice:

"Tires in the Street Category must fit the following specifications:

1. Effective 1/1/14 – Minimum UTQG tread wear rating of 140
2. Effective 1/1/15 – Minimum UTQG tread wear rating of 200
3. Molded tread depth of 7/32” or greater as specified by the manufacturer
4. Listed in a current year of prior two years of the “Tire Guide” and/or “Tread Design Guide”
5. Department of Transportation (DOT) approved

The class will allow sway bars on the front or rear, and have a wheel diameter allowance of plus or minus one inch. Despite earlier proposals, there will be no camber allowances via camber plates, bolts or slotting."

Awesome thanks man!
As im in the very Pacific Northwest i will be competing in mostly under 60 Deg. temperatures so may sound like staying away from the RS-3's

In stead of posting a new thread im looking for some insight.

I will be attending my 1st Auto X next week with my LSJ.
(It is with the PCA, so its nothing competitive, just to get out there and try it.) so classing is irrelevant

anyway, here are a list of my mods:
Tires: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec, basically will be done after this event.

Suspension: Pedders springs, Koni yellows in the rear, FE5 Struts up front, 1.25in Rear bar.

Info im looking for:

1.) Tire pressure, front and rear.
(the temp will be about 50*F)

2.) any tips lol

3.) i was out watching an autoX last weekend, there was a hair pin turn ... what gear do you take that in ?
- I cant get into 1st unless the car is basically at 0mph, idk why its just the way the car always was. soo i would assume 2nd lol

Your first autocross will mainly consist of being able to 'see' the course properly. Unless you're expert level and can pick things up instantly, you will probably do pretty bad. I'd recommend riding with as many experienced people you can so you can get a good view of the course at speed.

Basically, just go to learn and have fun. Don't get too caught up in trying to beat other people.

Depends how they rate your car in classes etc, but:

Powell parts:
Engine mount
RSB
Harness bar (stiffins that car up real good)
springs

Tires and light weight wheels
Shifting mods - twm shifter and bushings, maybe even the extender to raise the shift knob up

Driver mod - heal to toe, turning, line, etc.

Brakes!!! New lines, fluid, pads and rotors.

Oh I will say, I do some non "autox" sanctioned autox events. One is at an airport. Last year on the hill climb and airport I ran my NT05's. They gripped pretty well and squealed. I had my friends slicks on stock sc/ss wheels....holy crap. Slicks make a HUGE difference. Tripod'ed a few times on the slicks

nobody even answer this, did they?

40 pounds rear, let them grow.
35 front, *don't let them grow*. Might even try 32.

With the LNF I would shift into second as soon as I got rolling, and stayed no lower than second. 1st was too much torque and would cause undue wheel spin. LSJ might be different but I doubt it.

Bring a water sprayer. spray your H/E between runs to get your IAT down.

Brake early, throttle early.

More than anything, don't be afraid to ask the dumb questions, and .......

MOST importantly - have fun.

Where should he set his rear Konis? I was thinking full stiff to assist with rotation.

That's because you can't give a specific pressure. There are too many variables. Type of tire, tire size, temperature, surface, suspension, etc. You just have to see how the tires are doing and adjust accordingly.

Seat time is the best 'mod'.

Get some chalk. Chalk across the tread and down onto the sidewalls. That can help you see if the tire is rolling over, and how far. Chalk between each run.

For the sprayer, yes, that's just plain water. We get only a few minutes between runs. Barely enough time to pop the hood, check and set pressures and then spray the intercooler or H.E., slam the hood down, then back in the car you go.

Bring a notebook. Write the tire pressures before and after each run, and how it handled. YOU don't have time for it at your first event or two, so bring a friend that can write legibly

Basically just walk the course as many times as you can (with someone experienced). Ride with as many experienced people as you can, if your club allows it. Or have them ride with you.

Well guys i survived my first atuo X ... had a blast.

It was 45* with a constant 30mph wind off of the atlantic. So yea we all froze are ***** off.

The course was in a beach parking lot which had sand everywhere until the second half of the day where enough cars pushed it off the course. So traction was bit scarce.

All in all, me and my buddies had a great day.

First Run i did in 80 secs. i shaved about 2 sec off of each run as the day went on, which was fantastic.

Last run i ran a 67 sec, the fastest time of the day was a 55 sec and that was run by a Porsche who was using tire warmers all day long.

My goal was to break into the 60's and that i did so im glad.

Thanks for all of the tips that everyone gave me

John, you would be surprised. When the weather is hot down here guys spray the tires down with water before and after every run. When it's cool the tire blankets all come out.

yellowsupercharged06 the most important part is having fun, and seems you did. I hope you enjoyed it enough to do more.

Hey John, do you have any suggestions on how to keep the iat2's down while at an auto x event. ?

Sox suggested a spray on the h/e in between runs but that didnt do anything lol
