for the 05-06 cars GM was testing several programs in the ABS controller with the Koni cars, and the koni cars only used the 05-06 controllers even when they converted to turbo- i do know of one supplier who has the updated abs units 05-06 only, PM me if you want the info,

yes the power steering is a B=** when it goes out temporalily in a turn like the downhill at limerock, thats why grand am allows HHR power steering unit-

moreover the most issue i have had with road racing the cobalt 2006 ss/na has been the ABS, with the ABS hooked up i crash, without it i brake track records and win races, in the dry that is, no dought in the rain its good. given i have to run stock suspension but off camber, slicks, left foot braking, wheel off the ground with abs leads in disaster in my experiance. then only pedal modulation/body roll/ weight transfer i can deal with- like i said before, in 2010 at GBM lost at least one car to abs issues- and they had a GM engineer at thier disposal.

drive around it sure, be fast and win against cars that have way better abs, well i can only speak from my experiance.

this is what happens when your ABS is screwing up, and it starts activating at different wheels and freaking out taking a corner its not fun

NOW that beeing said i have a 07 supercharged cobalt with the newer abs and works like a champ no matter what, so...... idk
