Another autocross, another victory for a cobalt.

I went to a smallish autocross event today hosted by the local F body club.

Put the 1.25 OTTP Hardcore bar on the car, pumped up my tires a little bit and went at it.

I ended up surprising a lot of people haha.

The four cars in contention for overall victory were

04 CTSV springs and on Hoosiers
04 CTSV on Hankooks
06 Corvette Z06

and me in my little old Cobalt.

Got 8 runs in, I started at about 73.6 and worked it down to a 71.5.

The CTSV's got down to 71.4 and 71.5 seconds. The Z06 has a best of 71.2.

Second last run I went out and pulled a 70.9.

Z06 went out and pulled off a 70.7 but knocked a cone and had to take a two second penalty.

So Cobalt ends up with the overall win. I'll post up times and pictures when they are available. Great day, and amazed, and confused quite a few people.

Also the 1.25 bar is amazing for autocross.

Yeah these tires have help up pretty well suprisingly.

7 track days, and they still have a bit of tread left on them. They are definitely spent now though.

The 1.25" bar made it worse. Without the bar, that rear inside tire would have drooped more and probably wouldn't have left the ground (Assuming the OTTP bar the OP talking about is the OTTP rear sway bar and not the Eibach front one that they sell).

You know it.

He was stunned, I went for lunch and there were three or four guys crawling all over the car, I assume trying to find out I was lying abou the stockness of it.

It is the 1.25" rear bar from OTTP.

And I dont think I would describe whats happening there as "worse" than stock, as I wouldnt have even been able to get the car in the same position without that rear bar there.

That was a right hand loop with a decreasing radius at the end into a 2 cone slalom.

I was taking the whole thing like a sweeper, then when approaching the decreasing radius part, I would tap the brakes to get the rear end to kick out and then plant the throttle into the slalom.

Stock suspension that same manouver would have sent me in a straight line of understeer. So yes the tire would have remained on the ground, but the result in terms of lap time would have been worse.

Cool Stuff! Yeah, 3-wheeling like that in a FWD car is faster up to the point you overload the front tires, but it sounds like you handled it perfectly.

"worse" was a bad choice of words, I should have said it made it lift off higher....

At some of the SCCA road race events that I attend alot of FWD cars go through the corners with the Inside rear tires in the air. Looks cool!
