Apparantly the Cobalt SS's don't track well....
So I went to a car dealer and I was looking at an 07 mustang GT the other day... Thought it was a nice car, but overpriced and I didn't "love it"... Well.. also the salesman was a complete douche...
The whole time this guy kept telling me that, "SS cobalts are terrible track cars and can't hold their own on any track." He told me once they got a SS/TC in the dealership that he tried to drive fast and it almost rolled! He kept going on to say his 94 mustang is super duper fast and smokes Ferraris around road courses.. Also, NO cobalt SS makes any kind of good usable power. NONE.
I tried to explain to him that Cobalt's have several very good achievements in the area of road racing..... And for their size, make very good power... But he would not listen at all so, after taking abuse about how much of a shitbox my car is, I left.

lol i would have come back with several peices of paper off the internet showing the capabilities in comparison to an 07 mustang gt. make sure when you hand it to the salesman you say "you'd probably be able to sell more cars if you knew something about them" and leave with a smile on your face. send me his email address if you remember his name or maybe even the name of the dealership. i'd love to spam him with such things haha
ignorant salesmen are a pet peeve of mine. take pride in your job and know your ****. don't act like you know all about cars and treat everyone who walks in like a retard. my buddy used be be a car salesman and claims to know alot. he doesn't.

^Truth. Had a young punk in a v6 mid 90's Mustang try to drag race me to the end of the merging to single lane. Needless to say my base model embarrased him so much he made the p.u. face and wafted his hand, but also couldn't stop checking out my car. I laughed and said, now he's going to go home and beg daddy for a Cobalt.

Even some people in my local region of the SCCA didn't realize how good of a track car the SS/TCs are as delivered, so it is understandable that normal people are ignorant of it. People just have no idea what they even were, they just see an econobox. The car kind of flew under the radar unlike the Integra Type-Rs and SRT4s.
What is funny to me is literally the only people who knew what it was (everyone knew about the SS/SCs it seemed) were people who saw the C+D Lightning Lap issue where it beat an STI around VIR. I knew about the car before that issue but didn't realize how good it really was, and that issue was what made me go out and buy one. GM did a terrible job with promoting the car. Sport Compact Car also wrote a glowing review of it back in '08.

Reminds me of when I went to a used car dealership (more like junkyard) to see the "1999" 3000GT they had for sale, which was actually a 1995. He then proceeded to tell me it had "all sorts of intercoolers everywhere", to which I informed him that there was only 1, and pointed to it.
He also asked if my car was a Cavalier Z24 when I pulled up...

Sucks on the track, IKR!
With its balanced tuning, the Cobalt SS delivers a quick 0-60 time of approximately 5.7 seconds – thanks to the manual transmission’s “no-lift shift” feature – and a sports car-like maximum lateral grip of 0.9 g, TOP SPEED 160MPH. This combination enabled the Cobalt SS to set a new class record while circulating the famed Nürburgring racing circuit, posting a time of 8:22.85 minutes.

I can't say I've ever had somebody tell me about how lousy the Cobalt SS was, but I have delt with my fair share of salesmen who don't know what they are talking about. You'd think that they'd take the time to become experts on the stuff they are selling, instead of just breezing through those booklets that they already gave you
Usually I'm surprised at the level of knowledge some people have of these cars. I usually get approached by a few people at autocross events because they never actually saw a SS/TC up close, etc. Last year at Road America, the main guy running the show actually called out the fact that there was a turbo Cobalt SS there that day. When I spoke up and told him it was mine, he asked if that was the model that held the record at the Nurburgring.

^This. It also doesn't help to insult the potential buyer either. That happened to me when I went to look at a white SS/TC before I got mine. I asked the sales guy what kind of incentives they had on it and he told me it was 0% for 60. I then asked him what kind of cash rebates there were because I was going to buy it straight up. He started laughing until he realized that I was serious. He then stated that he assumed a guy like me wouldn't have "that kind of money". I walked away and didn't take his business card when he tried giving it to me.

Yup, I tried arguing, but there was no point. I just won't argue with someone if they are totally ignorant and will not listen. Don't worry, we walked out and don't plan on ever going again....
The guy has a 5.0 old mustang. That's at least what he told me with that year. The best part was apparently the high price on the mustang was warranted because of all the "performance parts" it had on it.. I guess this guy did a ton of work to stuff and it had full bolt-ons. So, I popped the hood only to reveal a STOCK intake... The mustang also sounded stock as well. It did have a special piece of plastic over the engine with a pony on it though... Good for at least 40 horse I believe. I mean, it DID have a horse on it.....
I did like the mustang though, just not for that price/ miles.... And because the guy was a douche I didn't even want to negotiate it at all. The SS/SC cobalts I guess also don't make anywhere near 200 horse and are "heavy pig cars."... So as you guys can tell, this guy was an arrogant, ignorant *****.

Okay. I plan on keeping my car and actually getting a VR-4 over the summer. I don't know why so many ppl would bother the turbo that front wheel drive car (please don't hate on me since all cobalts are front wheel drive, it's much heavier and AWD is so much better from a dig).
