Im dont know a lot of things about auto-X but I want to put my 2.2 on the track just for fun.So I have 17' rims on the car right now with all seasons tires and they sucks when pushed to hard so I want to know if i should get better tires on 17' or buy ultra light 15' or 16' and fit it with tires like the falken rt-615 or anything like that.

 

Smaller and lighter is your best bet. You'll have less rotating mass and less unsprung weight. Go with ultra light 15s and falkens.

Yeah, if you're looking to do auto-x a LOT, designated tires and wheels are a must anyway. I run 17s because that's what my tires came on. Might switch to 16s eventually, but that's FAR off in the future. I don't have the option for running 15s

 

best combo is 15x8 wheels with hoosiers, sooooo sticky

 

15's will provide more feel for how much traction you have whereas 16's will keep a stiffer sidewall and allow for quicker turn in. SCCA classes have tire restrictions I believe, putting Hoosiers on a stock car would possibly qualify it for the prepared class.

 

ok more specifically hoosier a3so6 dot legal tires with a treadwear rating of 40 and legal for stock category when sized to fit oem rims. on stock 15s you could easily fit 205/50/15 which would drop the car a little over an inch with no suspension mods.
