SCCA National Vail National Tour Event

I ran my 09 Cobalt LNF at the Vail tour event recently and wasn't completely unhappy with my results. Note that there was also a Cobalt (4-dr from WA) running in D-Stock at Vail.

I ran on Eiback Pro Kit springs (not the best choice -- my street springs) with Koni yellows and a very used set of Kumho V710 285/30 X 18 slicks. I ended up 8th out of 10 but five of the 10 included last years' national champ and some high national placers in DSP. One of the five (the guy who placed 1st) hasn't run in DSP before but has placed well at the Nationals in other classes. (I now have received my new Ground Control coilovers and camber plates to be installed this coming weekend -- and I'll try again at a local SCCA event against three of the drivers/cars I ran against in Vail -- 1st place and 4-5th places in Vail).

Except for some serious tire sliding (old tires) and excessive body roll (springs), I was pretty happy with the results. I ran here just to see how well the car would do. I already have new coilovers, camber plates, and a Stage I kit ready for the Nationals (assuming GM ever gets their act together for the computer flash).

I'm learning the turbo boost thing and getting the hang of early throttle in the corners. I've only run the car once before and that was on stock springs and stock shocks/struts so this was really my 1st event. I'm pretty sure I can be mid-pack at the Nationals even with my smaller 255/35 X 18 Hoosiers (I can't afford to buy new 285/30 X 18 Hoosiers before the Nationals this year). I'm shooting for next year to be competitive.

Here are the results from Vail:

Their are already 18 entrants for DSP (only one Cobalt and lots of BMWs) for the US Nationals in Lincoln, NE and I haven't seen last year's champs listed yet. It should be interesting. I have only two opportunities left to test before the Nationals.
