Want to enter my first race, question.
I am reading this site and trying to ask as few questions as possible so that I dont look like a moron when I show up at War memorial for my first race. Their form says Snell Helmets, does that mean I have to use that brand? Also is it really just as easy as printing out the form and showing for the event? I am a complete beginner with this and would like to go have a good time, get to know the community, and learn to be a better driver.

Our area SCCA has on line registration so that you can register in advance. I'd be surprised if yours doesn't. Show up on time, with the form filled out. Bring a roll of painters tape so that you can put your assigned number and class on the car. You cannot have anything in the car including floor mats so prepare for that. A blue tarp to set your belongings on, and perhaps a second one in case it rains. Rain gear and a bag of extra clothes for the same thing.... you will run rain or shine.
Don't be afraid to tell then that you are new, and ask a lot of questions too.
Have fun, that's the important part.

I have to start somewhere. Thank you all for the kind input. This forum lacks gentleness sometimes. Felt like I was helped here. A lot!
And soxfan I am working on getting rid of my pinstripe per your comment in another thread. LOL

Most places try to keep it simple. For auto X yeah you usually just show up. Pay a couple bucks. They might have a tech inspect your car (when I went in my old cobalt he checked the battery, brake lines, and looked for oil leaks) and your off. You don't really go all that fast and to be honest keep the rpms above 4000 so don't upshift if you are near the redline. All your power is up there and you should be focused on turning the wheel, not shifting. If you can, bring a friend with you and possibly some tools just in case. AutoX really thrashes the car around and when I did it a wire flew off in the engine. I didn't get my helmet inspected but it does have a snell sticker on it so that might be why. You could try using a dirt bike type helmet or motorcycle but that's up to you.

my girl thought she'd be bored when i race but she actually likes just looking at the cars.
as for a helmet. you can find them cheap on google or a local motorcycle dealer should be able to hook you up. if you arent picky on the design you can spend less than $200.

About your helmet -- here's the 2013 SCCA Solo II (autocross) rules say:
"All helmets meeting the latest or two immediately preceding Snell Foundation standards (SA2010, SAH2010, SA2005, SA2000, M2010, M2005, M2000, K2010, K2005, K98), SFI standards 31.1, 41.1, 31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, 41.2A or British spec BS6658-85 type A/FR are acceptable"
And here is a bunch of really good SCCA Solo II autocross information:

Most important! Have fun!

Should be able to grab a cheap snell SN rated helmet for less than 80 bucks, grab an SA rated one for just under 200 if you plan on actually racing on a road course (not track days, time trials usually require an SA helmet, for track days the SN is usually OK).

Most SCCA autocrosses offer 'loaner' helmets for new participants. Drop them an email. Here are a few photos of my cobalt.
Yes, the right rear is off the ground.
285/30 X 18 ZR A6 Hoosier slicks.
The rims are 18 X 10s -- same as the Mustang Cobra rear wheels -- with wheel adapters to run the wheel bolt pattern. Works really well.
