exactly what kind he used cause it doesnt look like its the stock one
Those are coilovers. Everything belonging to stock struts has been taken out

The red piece in this picture?

Thats called the strut hat (which these are obviously not stock). The black around it would be the strut mount, where the bolts go through (this is obviously stock, and part of the car). Lets call things by their real name now, instead of thingamajig and whichadidja... really helps eliminate confusion... Lol.

idk i mean i was told by the dealer that i needed a new strut mount and what your refering to as the strut mount seems to be a part of the entire body so idk i figured it went under that ontop of the strut but i could be wrong

Yes, probably he was talking of the strut mount as where you screw the top of the strut to the body of the car, which are those bolts on the black part around the "red piece" of the coilovers

i was asking the guy doing the build
but theres obviously the strut mount that is part of the body of the car and then there is the strut mount or "strut mate" http://www.carparts.com/details/Chev...onroets9059071

as pictured which is on the vehicle with the stock fe5 shocks

what im asking is with the coilover package you have or any coilovers in general,
is this part necesary?

mainly because the dealer told me i "blew" my strut through the strut mount
then listed this part for the replacement

im planning on putting coilovers on the car now
so will i need this part or no?

yea so basically on the invoice he wrote 'replace strut mount and strut seats'
1. im guessing its pretty much impossible to replace a strut mount since its part of the body
(please correct me if im wrong)
2. he put down for a 'strut seat' at $319 anyone have any idea what that could be?

im assuming he meant the 'strut-mate' like the one i posted in the link above

but yea if there is a difference between that and a 'strut seat' could someone let me know?

and if i got the coilovers there would be no need for a strut seat correct?

no, with coilovers you don't
so, $ 319 for the front pair, plus the cost of the eventual shocks and springs?

hahah yea see heres the thing im looking at the estimate right here and take into account this is in virginia but it says

replace both front strut mounts and seats

hours 2.4

labor $252

parts strut mount seat 319.90 (2)

ive been looking up strut mount seats cant find them anywhere
so i think it might be the spring seat which could make sense
but thats like a $2 part

so im pretty confused

but im glad to hear that you dont need the strut mount "mate"
with coilovers that saves me 50 bucks!

When you get a chance, please post some new pix, expecially of the smoked tail lights, the car without the badges and the wheels with the wheel spacers installed. Thank you

If i was you, I would get megan coilovers. You can find them brand new on ebay for less than $ 900 including shipping. I've heard from people on the forum that they are good coilovers

Here's a couple of the tail lights installed, badges removed and the Hahn FMIC on. Should have the turbo kit all wrapped up over the weekend with more pics

Between those 3, I've only tried BCs, and they are very good. Don't know about the other 2

KW>ALL. Stance is for low, KW is for go. So, it depends on what you want to do with the car, since you're a baller. /threadjack.

Ah, got it. Good for him, I became really poor after all these mods lolololol. I hope to be able to build the engine before the end of the year. And I have a project to try to realize. I mean, it is more a dream other than a project, but I wanna try to do it. What the hell, I only live once!! Hopefully within the next 3 years. Don't wanna say it yet. I've already told Nick, I hope I didn't jinx myself (did I spell JINX right? lol)

For the record: Megans are still close to 1k, doesn't mean you are poor if you buy those ;-)

That's why on another thread I asked you about your budget, because there is a big difference in price between buying springs and buying coilovers, about 600-700 dollars difference, and if you are looking for advices you need to say how much you're looking to spend. If you want to spend 300 bucks is one thing, if you wanna spend 1k or more is another thing.
On a SC I would get the eibach front and rear sway bars for sure (on the TC everybody says that the powell rear sway bar is better, and leave the stock front sway bar alone), plus either eibach sportlines or coilovers, depending on your budget.
And if you are dropping the car, get the wheel spacers, at least 10mm front and 5mm rear, otherwise the car will look like a train.
I have sportlines on my first SS, and since i put the spacers it looks much better.
