I guess what I'm sayin is, you guys know you can ask me anything about Shaw right? Well, if you didn't, you do now! If you're having problems with anything, I'll get it worked out!!!!

Now... on to the rest of this stuff!

Yeah, it's a pretty quick fix. I'm guessing you probably had a Service Tech come out and bring you a new modem? If you did, the reason it "didn't take affect" is because the Dispatcher probably forgot to complete the work order in our computer system. Turning on xtreme is actually just a 'switch' in our computers, but you need to already have a specific modem for us to turn it on. Glad this got worked out.

As a side note. While Ash was right about it being double the speed, he's also missing one key thing. Xtreme comes with a feature we call PowerBoost. Basically what PowerBoost does is unlocks the potential of your download speed for the first 20 seconds of any internet usage. So... essentially that screeny you posted is saying you got 22Mbps, while you're only paying for a 10Mbps connection. For longer downloads you'll only get about 10Mbps, but the first 20 seconds of anything you download will hit up to about 32Mbps (in a perfect world)

$85 for basic dig and light speed? are you talkin 85 after taxes? Cause that would make sense. If not, you're getting jooked a good 10 bucks. Text me your account phone number, I'll take a look into it. Maybe I can work something out

Leave the guy alone, if he wants to do that to his car so be it. This is exactly why so many knowledgeable people have left this forum. Isn't this supposed to be a informative site about cobalts? I have found more good cobalt info at www.offtopic.com

Cool, I didn't mention the Powerboost, because it only stays for 30 secs. And it only goes to 25, not 32, lol. Its great for music downloads though, I've gotten some 1.5MB/sec downloaded speeds from time to time, and I'm wireless!

On an unrelated note, it would be hilarious if I got to train with you. I start next monday

Yeah, I have wireless n, but I want to upgrade my router to go even faster. Most downloads aren't near that fast, but thats as high as I've seen. I regularly get 400kb/sec-800kb/sec downloading

Sorry Ryan, step in here if you want.

For those of you that think your internet speeds are slow, call Shaw and have them check for signal AND packet loss. If the signal and packets look fine, an there is nothing obvious (like wrong speed on modem, etc.), I'd try bypassing routers and trying different laptops to narrow it down (ie: your stuff is the problem). If it is only some sites some times of the day, blame the internet, not the isp.

/peace.

Yup, I love my shaw internets. I get 8,000 kbps wireless even on my cheap $29.99 wireless g router. The 21,000 kbps was wired from the router.

Now if only they gave me a free HD Receiver

If you really want to get down to the technical, what it really does is software uncap the modem. Right now since our network infrastructure is designed around a DOCSIS 2 based backbone, with DOCSIS 1.1 running at the Customer Premise Equipment (..modem) the fastest is can get, due to network limitation, is 32Mbps, but this could only ever happen if you were the only person with services on your Node... hence my saying "In a perfect world". We are currently in the process of upgrading all of our CMTS devices with the newer DOCSIS 3 platform, which will allow us to go up to about 150Mbps right at the CPE (..modem) should we choose to allow it.

There is a lot more going on in the background then we allow our customer base to know, because these things can be exploited relatively easy. I only know these things because I'm in conference calls with our Headend Network Specialists on a weekly basis as part of my Tech job...

That would be pretty neat, but alas I have no training scheduled for the foreseeable future. I'm what they call a Training Champion, which basically means I'm a glorified 'good at their job' like person. They get me to train things when we get spurts of hiring and our full time Training Specialists can't hack it. You'll train with Rosalie if you're a CSR.

Why be sorry? I know you know these things...

Because it has so much crazy mad horsepowers it would instantly melt the snow causing a massive flood. Same reason I had to get rid of my LSJ, the supercharger would melt the snow everywhere I went.
