Are you planning on keeping the rpd if it works? Is the guage pod still in good condition?

Doing a shorty header won't be as bad. You should be able I get it though the bottom. I had to take my valve cover off and go through the top with the long tube. Just tightening the bottom manifold bolts is a PITA.
Not trying to be mean bud. Just being honest haha. Just get a wideband bung plug for the hole in the header. Motion has em.
