91+ Octane
Hey,
Does anyone know if there is anywhere in Edmonton that you can get 92-93 octane gas?? I read a thread where people in Calgary were saying there are some Husky's that had 93 octane but I've never seen it in Edmonton... Is octane boost really worth the money??? I bought this NOS octane boost for $18.99 which claims up to a 6 point raise in octane... car ran great... but then again it always runs great... so I'm assuming the **** is not worth the money.

Octane Boost= part alcohol and transmission oil. Waste of money. What they mean by a 6point increase is in tenths, So the best you would be is 91.6. But most will only give 2 to 3 points at best. Even though they claim a 6 point increase.
That is true, NOS raises it by 60 points (decimal points) or a full 6 Octane rating from 91 to 97........trust me I ran octane boost all last summer, was the only thing that would help prevent the massive timing retard the ecu would pull by running my 2.8" pulley and 91 octane gas. The Stage 2 tune works like crap with 91 Octane, was geting 3-7 degrees of timing being pulled in places through the rpm range on a wot run!

NOS does not raise your octane that many points. It is cheaper to make your own. Here is a test of NOS http://volvospeed.com/Reviews/octane_boosters_nos.html
Again a waste of $20.00

87 for yourself (2.2 or 2.4's), but 91 for any SuperCharged or TurboCharged engines.
I used toluene and it worked great for me. I ran a 14.002 with a toluene mix in my Ion Redline. Now, when I go to the track, I use VP StreeBlaze 103. That stuff works great!
there are a few huskys in edmonton that carry 94.
the one I use is on the southside just north of south edmonton common on hwy 2.
there are also plans to bring 96oct to the husky stations that are currently carrying 94
ps. people who say all octane boosters work, are as stupid as the people who say they all DONT work.

Thanks
Speaking of Husky though... I've also heard that their premium which has that ethonal **** in it is terrible for your car long term... I don't know much about this, I'm just repeating what I've heard. However my last car I had it did say in the manual not to use fuel containing ethonal.
Thanks

its only recently with this green push that they post it on the pumps, and governments are requiring minimum percentages etc.
the only negative effect is you will net slightly lower fuel mileage, as ethanol nets less energy than regular gasoline. it will be very very slight,
but for the trade off of the higher octane, Im happy to run it in the summer
10% ethanol is not going to hurt anything.

Ya, I've run Husky gas before and never had any problems but my friend who calls himself a "mechanic" says that it clogs up your injectors over time. Does the 93-94 octane at Husky cost much more then the regular premium? The Husky I've been to on Calgary Trail by Scona only has 91 octane... or maybe its 92?
your correct, and I have been using octane boosters off and on for the last 13 years. Each time I try one I do research before it goes into my tank. This is along the same lines as oil additives. I have found some that actually work, then of course there are some that don't.
