Yes I have. You have to remember it is a six speed so he thinks its not going fast. they are 200 hp and 220 torque. The Cobalt is faster by 5 hp stock and is 300 lb lighter. the two cars are comparable. The 09 will be 240 hp. I am not looking to really mod this car. probably do exhaust, cai and maybe stage 2 but that will bring it up to about 270-290 whp though. Any ways that is what I understand from what I've read.

Sounds like VW did a chip mod to boost the HP numbers. I know for the VW it is quite easy to do a chip mod with the car so that will make things easy for ya.

I'll sell you my stock ss.sc exhaust for $50 and the manifold for another $50 these will be a definate improvement over what you have on your car.
pm me if you want them.

They are some tuning opions for fueling you can use the boost a pump setup to dial in your full throttle afr. There was also a guy selling some good cams for the 2.2 on hear a while ago.

no i mean like full throttle runs from like the bottom of 2nd to redline...didnt seem to fast, but yah they can be modded real easy from what i hear, and my buddy says that the internals are 'bulletproof", i donno if he is exaggerating but he says they can hold ALOT of HP...........now the real question is, are you lying when you say your not gonna mod it really? haha once you start you cant stop!

what color do you like? black or white forsure gets my vote..

I like the United Grey out of all the colours. (not quit black and not silver)

From what I've been reading the internals are bullit proof. I have not read anything about people replacing the internals after gaining huge HP. Most of the HP mods are direct bolt on and tuning from what I've seen/read so far.

So what made you decide not to buy a GTI and go with the balt? Most of the stuff I have read about problems a pretty minor or a do-it yourself fix. I was looking at them before but at the time I could not afford the payment so I bought the balt.

cheers

Well just like you, at the time I could not afford the payment. Also I had heard from numerous people that the GTI was having electrical and transmission issues....and I did not want to have to deal with that living in Fort McMurray and not having a VW dealership within 500km (closest is Edmonton). So if I wanted to have service here, and an affordable payment....that is why I went with the Cobalt. I was aware with the SS S/C that there was clutch issues, but it seemed to be with mostly people who raced them a lot at the strip or on the street. Plus I think that has a lot to do with driver input....but I do not know for sure.

As for your situation.....it is rare and does not seem to common since it has only happened to maybe a handful of people on the forum out of who knows how many members. BUT at the same time it is good to know what you went through and to keep an eye on it.

I still really like the GTI, and I am sure that since I was looking at them that they have ironed out the bugs. If I had the choice now....it would be even tougher because I could EASILY afford the payments with my current job.

That's cool. Thanks for sharing. It would seem that they have for the 08 which should carry forward to the 09.
