Angry Dealership says its becuase my car is too low? wtf

So i took my car in to get a ticking noise check out coming from my exhaust system ( they dont know what it is they say its normal sounds, If n e one knows what the problem could be let me know) long story short took it in came back to pick my car up and my front bumper has a HUGE gash out of it .. so i go back to talk to the service manager that day .. he was off on holidays .. all the guy said to me was..... WELL U KNOW UR CAR IS LOWERED.. i was like no ****.. then he said how do we know u didnt do it.. i said cuz i just washed my car and i go over it with a fine tooth comb.. then he said well ur car is too low that will happen.. by then i was about to hit him so i left and said i would come back when the service manger was in. so i call today to tlak to him and he sounds all pissed becuase it had been two wks.. then he told me well my tech told me ur car is really low.. i said well its is lowered yes.. so i just told him i took it in with out damage and it came back with damage i want it fixed.. then i the last thing i said to him was just becuase its lowered does not mean u get to run it into **** and its ok.. take ownership for somthing ur men did.. and next thing he said is have it here thurs morn and it will be fixed...

I hate how dealership think just becuase ur not a adult that they can walk all over u.. and what i am tryin to get out of this.. is stand up to them they will cave... climb whatever ladder u need to get the treatment u deserve.. i cant wait till it comes out after paint.. cuz if its done shitty they will be have to do it again.. OK I WILL SHUT UP NOW

WOW!! That's a decent amount of miles and gas to go through. I would most def complain about that. I take mine to a local dealership that another SS/SC guy works at, he's a tech. Otherwise, I have no idea where I would go for warranty work. When you take it back to have them fix the bumper, make sure you take pics of your mileage, your fuel, the damage and maybe go around the car to take pics for support that there is NO other damage on it just in case you find something else

The ticking sound is probably the stock catalytic converter...

Last time I took my car to the dealer I was walking back from doing some shopping to pick it up and saw the guy whip around the corner in it.... more reckless than I would ever drive my car... He gunned it and I am sure redlined it then squealed around the corner. I followed him and walked up to him and said "do you always drive the cars you are supposed to be looking after like that?" He never said anything. I should have told his boss but didn't. WHat happened to you could happen to anybody. Accidents happen but own up to it. Stupid *****.

ok so i had the same problem and i know several other people down here had the same problem it is your exhaust leak there is mostlikey a bad seal between the downpipe and the cataltic converter it is caused by hard shirfting aka a few burnouts or wheel hops and bam it startes to break the seal tell them to fix it and if you have to cheat but ur car back to stock hight if possible and take to another GM dealer and then see thats what i do each time with mine to take it back in i pull out my CAI switch for origional

The ticking sound is from the metal on the exhaust. Forget the full explaination but I guess different pieces are different types/amounts of certain metals so they heat up and cool down at different temperatures. All I know is since I put the GMPP exhaust on it's gone.

If it's the three distinct "knocking" sounds that's the fuel pump.

With my exsperience some of the employees at the dealerships treat young people with no respect. But that's their decision because they lost a customer. Even my father said so, If they wont give at least a little respect we will not do buisness with them.

Once I was getting a quote on the Stage 2 installation and he said it takes 7 hours. 100 bucks an hour. I stated to him that i could do it in 2 hours and it takes a GM TECH 7 hours to install a few minor parts? Next time I go their I will request they call PARTEC hotline so they will follow what they say.

Has anybody done this?

just go to another dealer for the install. you do not want to have a tech that has never done the stage 2 install

I had a ticking sound on my exhaust! Does the sound go away after the car heads up? If so then its your exhaust manifold gasket, it has a crack in it, same problem w/ mine! It almost sounds like a valve tap!

I can't believe that. I would have laughed in his face. The key to dealing with dealerships is to go in with the "**** you" attitude. Not being mean, just being stern. I had a wheel bearing in my old Nissan go bad while it was under waranty and I went it and wasn't even nice about it. I acted like it was the biggest inconvience in the world. I'm not a dick or anything, but I've had those problems with dealers before, and it sucks that they treat you like that because of your age. The sadder part is that with how much kids are into cars now-a-days, most kids know more about the damn cars when their 18/19 than the mechanics working on them do

Glad you didn't take any **** though dude.

Yea it is quite pitiful. An 18 year old telling them how to do their job (in a respectful way). And the response he gave me on the fact that I said it should only take 2 hours was well can you do the reflash??? In a smart ass way. Well whatever. The problem is not nessicarly the mechanics it is the parts department and all that jazz.

So do all dealerships have to follow the partec hotline? I always wondered that.

REEEEAAALLLYY?

because i bought the cobalt addiction header sometime last winter and ive heard a knocking since the day i put it on! I asked someone else they said thats just the way headers are, i took that with a grain of salt...

It happens really when first starting my car or when i really get on it.

So you think i have a broken gasket? are you talking about at the block or the collector?

I had a broken gasket, it will only do it while sitting still for awhile or when first cranking the car up b/c when the gasket heats up, it will expand and close the gap! Im not saying this is what you have but it was sure as hell what I had!

They have to fix your car PERIOD! When they take your car they take responcibility for it 100%. It is up to THEM to do a walk around check and if they find any damage they are to note it and have you initial next to it. If they did not then you are entitled to a new bumper. Your car being lowered means NOTHING! They fucked up, they have to fix it.

Call a lawyer if need be and good luck.

When I owned my Matrix, I had it lowered with nice rims and I told the dealer when I took it in to be "extra careful" with the car as it is lowered. They said "no problem". I got the car back a couple days later after the transmission was replaced (under warranty of course ), and I always do a walk around the car. And sure as **** I find that the front bumper is damaged from one of the guys parking the car and running into one of those curbs they put in parking stalls.

So I went inside right to the service manager, brought him outside and showed him the damage to my bumper, and the fact that whomever had damaged it just did it before I got there because the car was STILL parked on top of the curb!! The manager was livid. But they fixed it no questions asked.

If he would have said "Well it is because your car is lowered..." and tried to squirm out of it, I would have LOST it on him.

I am glad to hear that your car is getting fixed. But just check over the paint when it is done to make sure they did a good job, and not just a quick job.

had my dealership do the same thing to my car. except it was factory height, i was pissed. inspected my car when i went in to get it, came straight to the manager, they denied it. i pointed to the fresh paint hanging off the bumper... they fixed it. very poorly though, didnt sand it didnt prep it properly, paint was chipping off like crazy.

that blows. i know from working at a dealership that "****" does happen and for the most part we own up to our mistakes unless the guy is obviously trying to pull a fast one on us then we get all pissy lol. and the rattling from the exhaust i get it but only when the car is turned off, my brother gets it while he's driving at any speed after it warms up. its something to do with the catalytic convertor and no gm will not fix/replace the cat. because they say there is nothing wrong with it.

The tick from the exhaust on the 2.4 is the resonator located behind the cat. I put mine on the hoist while still hot one time to find out exactly what was doing the ticking.
