Unhappy Killed My SS/SC!

Well, as a few of you know, I had a really bad day on Sept. 14th.

It had started raining pretty hard on my way to work. I was making a left turn onto a road and had swerved around a car that had entered my lane by rolling through a yield sign (didn't yield as well as I'd have liked). I had turned the wheel too quickly while passing around him in the other lane, resulting in the back end stepping out, throwing me into a slide. I countersteered and was playing with the brakes and throttle trying to get her back as it slid side to side, but it was too far gone in the wet. She went over a curb and hit a lightpost on the rear three quarter panel. In hindsight, I should have braked instead of going around, so it was stupid on my part. But it is all a mood point by now. I thankfully I didn't hit anyone else, and walked away without so much as a bump. So in the end, it was just my car that got hurt.

Didn't look that good afterwards. Couple thousand in damages minimum including some wheels and some new body panels. Turns out the frame is twisted front and rear, and it looks like the insurance company is going to write it off now. So after waiting for my car for 7 months, I ended up only owning it for 7 months. So I hope that all of you have a better ending to your story than I had with my car!

Really kind of turned off of driving right now. Not sure what my next car will be, but probably not a Cobalt. Likely something more usable, like a 4-door sedan. I kind of want another SS/SC, but I have to admit that I feel like an idiot buying another after I already crashed my first one (first new car too). That said, you can't get the Recaro seats anymore, and that pretty well means I won't get one. I would be driving it all winter long, so having the stock leather seats without heaters would frankly suck. Why GM doesn't give them the same heaters that the 2.4L SS gets is beyond me (not to mention why the 2.4L SS has high-polish wheels stock, and those are now a pay option on the SS/SC).

So, I am not sure what is going to happen now car wise for me. I just wanted to let everyone know what is going on, because I probably won't be around much anymore. Not very interesting to sit on here reading about what you lost if you know what I mean.

It's been a blast guys. Those of you whom I met have given me lots of good memories! Best wishes!

Yeah, no one stopped, and it was mid-day on a busy street. Lost some faith in humanity there.

I only went off doing about 50 Kph, so it wasn't a big hit. Airbags didn't even deploy, and I have the head curtain ones too. I'd have thought that they would have gone off. Recaros held me nice and tight! I was shocked to hear that it was written off after the bags hadn't deployed. Nor did I break or crack any glass. Goes to show how little it takes to damage a unibody car!

Buy another one. If you don't, the cobalt gods will look down on you in hatred. You know you want one. Maybe another color will get you back into the swing of things.

Yeah, mine will be about the same. This is my only at-fault accident on the insurace, so I get 6 years of high premiums, provided I don't crash again.

6 years of high premiums! Dude! when i saw the thread then i saw it was you i couldnt believe it. **** man, you were the one who taught ME how to drive these ****** things i thought you'd be the last person to wreak your car. im sorry for ya man.
Have you came to any slight conclusion as to what your going to do now, get another car, and if so which one? anyways i hope you can get thru and recover. great news you didnt get hurt, but wtf is up with those air bags you said they didnt even deploy, ****. i wonder how many other cobalts are driving around out there with air bags not working...

Decided to spend some extra money, and order a 2007 Impala SS to replace the now deceased Cobalt SS/SC. The only way I was going to get another SS/SC was if I could get the Recaros, and the only 07's left in western Canada with it were Black and Rally Yellow (not colors I am interested in). So I am waiting for my Silverstone Metallic Impala SS to come in. Couldn't resist the temptation of V8 power (303 HP, 323 lb-ft torque) combined with the utility of having four doors with a useable back seat. Insurance on the Impala SS is cheaper than the Cobalt SS Supercharged too. So it is a good deal all around for me.

One thing is for sure. I will miss the Cobalt!

thats probably what I do would do if I could aford it.

I miss V8 torque

Bring that down to Race City next year!

Base price the Impala SS is great deal. Loaded up it does get rather pricey though. Give me a
"striper model" anyday. Todays models sually come with tons of stuff anyhow.

So, what options did you get?
