I miss V8 torque

Bring that down to Race City next year!

Base price the Impala SS is great deal. Loaded up it does get rather pricey though. Give me a
"striper model" anyday. Todays models sually come with tons of stuff anyhow.

So, what options did you get?
I broke the bank. I had been saving to pay off the Cobalt, so I was able to spend a bit more. Ordered everything except sunroof and premiuim tint coat paint (sport-red metallic or whatever the heck it is in 2007). For 2007, heated leather seating is standard (can't get cloth in Canada???). Only options other than sunroof were 6-disc changer, heated exterior mirrors, high-polish aluminum wheels, and the universal home remote (garage door opener). The factory remote starter will be nice this winter. It also has an 8-speaker BOSE system standard (I love BOSE stereos). Haven't had one since the Z34 which had a factory 6-speaker. Didn't use the sunroof on the Cobalt, and considering both the price, and the potential problems, I decided against it. All the 2006 and 2007 Impala's in the city and surrounding area had the sunroof, so I had to order it. So even with a decent amound down, I'll be financing for probably 5 years to keep the payments low.

Thing that sucks is the 2006 had a 3.29 axle ratio. For 2007 they get the same 2.93 ratio as the Grand Prix GXP (also with 5.3L LS4). It losses a bit of acceleration because of that. It has lost it's straight-line advantage over the GP-GXP. I guess the improved fuel economy will be worth it though. So will the 5 year/ 160K powertrain warranty. It also kind of sucks that the Impala SS doesn't get the same Blistein shocks, larger cross-drilled brakes, Heads-Up-Display and wider front wheels that the GXP does. The SS braked as well as the GXP anyhow in the road tests and was just slightly off the skidpad grip figure. Then again, I trust solid vented brakes better than crossed drilled anyhow. Too prone to cracking under heat, and you loose brake surface by drilling holes through it, so I have heard that whatever cooling gains you make are offset by the reduced contact surface between the rotor and pad.

Anyhow, I am looking forward to the V8 power. Hopefully it isn't too thirsty. Maybe gas will stay cheap? Car should make a fantastic sleeper!
