New mod for my 370z

Ok so lets face it. I dont have $10k - $15k to spend on a twin turbo set up. Or a little less for the supercharger kit that is being made now. But I want more power!. So i decided to buy something that should entertain me for a little while. I'll let the pictures do the talking

So as you can see its a Zex Wet Shot Nitrous System. Spent $734 on it with the help of my gf This is just the basic kit, ill be getting the racers pack which comes with the window switch, wot switch, purge kit, bottle warmer and a few other safety things. I'll be getting everything installed/tuned in the spring (since i got about a month before i head to vancouver) I'm going to start with a 50shot to get use to it and get my expeirence up with it, then maybe move to a 100shot.

That cost $750? Ouch.

Good luck with it, i'm gonna put my '08 on bottle soon, except i'll start at 100 and go up from there.

How are the VQ37's holding up to spray? Has anyone blown one up yet?

only a few people have sprayed. I'm reading a post on the G37 forums. a guy is spraying a 150shot and hasnt had any issues and he is hitting 431whp on the bottle. Reason why im going small is i never used nitrous before so i want to get use to it first. And i dont want to go any higher then 100shot...just cuz its less of a chance of me blowing something up. 100shot is good enough...thats 380whp..lol.

very true. Yea i didnt have to investigate before making a decision. It was basically "damn, dont have the money for twin turbo....ill just buy nitrous." Been reading alot of sites for the past few hours...more and more i read, the more safe it seems to be. Here are 2 pictures of how ill have my bottle. Sorry for the pictures...i havent figured out how to take pictures at night with this new camera.

Option A:

Ok so a little update. I found out Zex sells a kit for the 2008+ 350z...never knew there was a difference between 2007 and 2008 models. The difference between the two models is that the 08 350z has dual throttle bodies, just like my 370z. So really it would have been smarter to buy that kit...i watched the video they made and looked at the other parts i need. Just to get this running i need $260 worth of fogger. hoses, fittings and adaptors to run a second line from the NMU to the second intake. Also a few of those parts are to make the fuel line plug and play so i dont have to cut anything. All that is just to get the kit running. That doesnt included the $340 Race Tuners kit im going to buy that includes the blow down kit, purge kit and bottle heater.

This question is to rob, chad or anyone else that might know the answer. While running nitrous at Castrol, is there any rules I have to follow...ie racing suit, roll cage or anything like that. The only thing i seen for roll cage is if I hit 11.50 or quicker.

Anyways, heres what i did tonight...got bored and decided to chuck in the activation switch. Also here is a drawling of how the lines are going to run...dont laugh at my artistic skills.

Nice...

I'd go with the front-rear bottle mounting as opposed to sideways, will keep you from running out of liquid as quickly that way.

If you need advice with the setup or anything, let me know. I'm doing my install in the Z probably in the next week or so, and i've done probably 10-12 before.

Yeah, the extra parts for the dual TB setup are not cheap, I have to get that stuff to add to my kit that I pulled from the Cobalt. It adds up fast.

yea i got a question for you, what jets are used to make 50 shot (50shot in each intake)....i see 17/32 makes a 55....i havent decided whether i should just runn a 110shot...that extra 10hp can account for the drivetrain loss

If you don't have the money for forced induction I would highly recommend NOT going over a 100 shot at any time. Do you really want to risk a problem in a nearly brand new car that you don't have the money to fix? Plus a 100 shot should be plenty to have some fun on the street.

You don't want to see what it will cost to fix that motor. Trust me. Ease into it.

Yea ill stick with a 100shot, im going to have all the safety devices in so it shouldnt be to bad. And its not like im always going to be spraying. Street legals are every friday. Every other week im taking the car, going to keep switching between the car and ZX6R to race.

I dont think there's any particular rules when running nitrous. Check the www.castrolraceway.com for more details. I think the suits and roll cages are just for time, but I would also make sure you mount a small fire extinguisher inside. Put it by your feet so incase you get pinned in and can't get out, and if there's a fire you can always try and keep the flames away from you until the medics get there. Safety first.

See Matt's car for a cool extinguisher mount by his feet. Looks good and its out of the way.

I will look for you, but I can't remember exactly where I saw it. There is an extinguisher I saw a few years ago that has a thin wall on one side that you mount under the nitrous tank. It is extremely fragile when it comes to heat, so if the tank flames up, the extinguisher's wall ruptures and shoots the extinguisher directly onto the nitrous tank. It was only like 30 bucks and while I would still have another extinguisher by you just in case, it's a cool safety feature that you can't even see unless you look for it.

I got a 5lb fire extinguisher behind the passenger seat...within arms distance..best place in my car to have it. On another note, finished these the other day.

Blacked out the housing and added 8000K bulbs. Also put in the chromed amber turn signals for the tail lights, so no more egg yoke color when looking at them.

Nitrous hey?

Don't like warranty? Or have you figured a work around? (take it out during maintenance/dealer trips?)

Already brought the car to the dealership with the bottle in. Service was closed but the dealership manager told me to bring it in when they open after the holidays. My climate control is all screwy. They basically told me the same thing the manager at a chevy dealership told me. Warrenty isnt voided unless the aftermarket part causes the problem. So if something is wrong with my car, i can leave the nitrous hooked up and they cant do **** about it....unless of course the nitrous blew the engine apart and thats what im going in there for..lol.

I know for a holley nozzle anyway, at 42psi fuel pressure, it's a 37/22 jetting, so if it's that far off for your kit, then it's not the same way of rating jets.

I know the 350z runs close to 60psi as did the LSJ, so maybe thats where you are getting the numbers, but either way, you won't have a problem with 10 more or less horsepower, run it, see how it feels, see how you like it, make sure your A/F's are solid, then bump it up if everything is cool and you want more power.

Or, hopefully, it's enough, you like it, and you leave it that way.

(that doesn't really happen in my experience)

Thanks for the advance. My power goal is 400whp. I'm at 280whp right now so with a 100shot - drivetrain loss that will give me about 360whp...give or take. Fast Intensions just came out with a long tube header. That that and their catback exhaust it made a gain of 31whp without touching the tune. So if i have to bump up the nitrous it wont be that much, maybe a 125 - 150 shot. Like i said before a guy with a G37 has ran a few bottles through on a 150shot and has no problems. Hell i even read a guy on thats forum is trying to blow his LSJ cuz he has a spare one all built up. he has ran a few bottles of a 125 shot and the LSJ is showing no signs of danger. No knock, low IAT2...nothing. But we will see when it comes time to get it tuned.

Small progress made tonight. I'll probably get the rest installed next week when i can get into the garage on base.

Thats a funny spot for the push-button, I can't see that being too convienent honestly.

It may look tacky, but look into a button on a little cord, so you can keep it in your hand while your hand is on the shifter. I did that in the Cobalt and it worked great, set it up like that for others as well. I prefer it to a WOT switch myself, just for more direct control, but thats just me.

I gotta look into that FI header, wonder if it fits the HR 350s?

that push button is for purge. Why would i hold the purge button when i shift? My kit doesnt have a button to spray the nitrous...it does automatically. I have WOT and Window Switch so all i do is turn on the main activation switch which will turn the Nitrous Management Unit on and that will take care of the rest.
