R.I.P Trooper Hayes and others

Kinda random and off topic of most posts but i need to vent abit, not in a bad way either. As most of you know we lost 4 Canadian soldiers couple weeks ago in afghanistan. I believe the 2 from the 2RCR Infantry unit were killed by a IED they stepped on when they were clearing a house. Then the 2 soldiers from the Armour Corp. were killed when they went out past the Opservation Post they had set up to do a recon patrol on a Taliban stronghold. They ended up running over another IED which killed the soldiers. Trooper Cory Hayes was with the Royal Canadian Dragoons which is based in Petawawa Ont. However his hometown was in NB. The scary thing is, Trooper Hayes finished his DP1 Armour course approx. 1 year prior to being killed. The same course I just finished last month.

Since im now in the Armour Corp and im based in NB at the moment I have been selected to be part of the funeral this weekend. Unfortunely this is my 3rd military funeral and I find it harder each time to deal with the emotions. I imagine most people are the same way. Even if you didnt know the person personally its still hard to deal with the passing.

Also something else i want to vent about is, most people seen the interview on the news about the Fox news thing. The american news crew basically trashing the canadians in afghanistan. Saying how we dont pull our own weight and whatnot. When florence showed me that, that felt like being punched to the ground then getting kicked between the legs. I'm still speachless about that. I believe it was pretty much the first canadians that were killed in Afghanistan were killed by a American fighter jet and then they come out with that. Like, wtf?

So i just wanted to get those 2 things in the air and see what everyone thinks about the situations.

Hmmm.... well....
As for the funeral, Whenever I see it on TV or something about it on the computer, its really hard. I know a few people that are over there now and my heart drops every time I see a news headline about more solders killed. I can't imagine having to do what you are going to do. I would be a total mess if I had to so something such as that. I sit here and read news articles and cry so I cant imagine what I would be like if I had to be there.

Hmm...The fox thing. I'm just as disgusted as you. We are helping fight the AMERICANS war and this is what they say about us? I can't believe it. And to think that it was allowed on national television? Its one thing to think it but another to air it to millions of people. If it wasn't for Canada the US would be a hurting place, IMO. As far as I know, they get gas, water, wood, etc from us. (I may be wrong so don't freak out at me please) I watched the whole segment and one thing that I think its just plain stupid is they made fun of "Andrew Leslie's" name... when his last name was Gutfeld.... WTF!?! Obviously there was a lot of other **** said that is just outrageous, I just don't understand how it was aloud to be aired on national television.. thats all. I could ramble forever I'm sure.

Yeh that Fox thing was unbelievable .. and sad that it was actually aired.

I also find it hard JUST reading or seeing on the news about soldiers getting killed over there ... and seeing the people on the overpasses in Ontario. Really gets to me, and I do tear up and get sad ... it's hard not to.

It's always hard when we hear that one of our own was killed in action, even worse when we think that the fight isn't our own. I respect those that put their life in harms way to serve their country, and I can't imagine what it would be like to be in their position, or yours for that matter. Death is always hard when it's closer to home, but we all need to be strong and lean on each other when in time of need. I don't think it is wrong for you to vent, in fact, I think it's good. The idea of facing the same situation as your fallen comrads must be difficult I'm sure, I know I would be having a hard time as well. I'm sure we all agree here that hopefully you won't encounter any of these situations. We all know that there's always the possibility of going to war when you list on the forces, but nobody can prepare for the emotions that will be faced when the day comes, or the possibility of going into battle.
Stay strong, and remember that you always have family and friends when you need them most.

Just to clear it up, FOX doesn't represent us all! I am completely appreciative of what the Canadians are doing and glad to have their support. FOX is just a stupid biased news station anyways so **** them. And I know the funerals are hard, had to be a paul bearer just last year, hope you dont have to deal with anymore!

Not To Flame you. Or step into your guys Section. I think we need all the help we can get from everyone.. And dont listen to Fox.. Fox used to praise Bush.... And Fox is just stupid...

BUT why i quoted your Post is because what you Said is Ignorant. We dont get oil from you.. We get our Oil from the Middle East, Alaska, And the gulf of mexico. We dont get our Water from you as we have our own Reservoirs everywhere. Wood.. Maybe.. and etc? What else do you guys supply?? Maple Syrup? Lol. Just saying....

And the Reason its said National T.V. Is Americas Great Freedom of Speech. Not saying what they said was right. Cuz They are never right. But basically if you think it you can say it. And they just happen to be News Anchors.

But this is not to invade your section and Say USA USA USA!! I just couldnt pass up the title on the home page of R.I.P

I know you americans have a freedom of speech and all that but theres a difference in that and plain ignorence. I know what was said on fox was not ment to be spoken for everyone but i just cant stand people like that. I just wish those people would come do our job for even 1 day. They go on and on how soldiers shouldnt be there or we arent doing our jobs right. Lets see them do half the stuff we go through. Like damn, the stuff im trained to do, isnt even half as bad as being over there.

Thanks to all that care. As for me, iiunno if im in a good or bad position right now. Right now im qualified as a tank driver. The leopard tanks arent getting as messed up as the other vehicals over there, not saying they arent getting hit hard but they can with stand more of a blast. So in a way i am safer, however the driver is usally the first person to get killed because he/she is at the front of the tank and the lowest to the ground. But we are trained to think smart and do our job right under preasure. I just hope i get qualfied on the new tanks canada is buying from the germans. The Leopard 2 is one of the best tanks in the world, its almost, if not just as good as the russian T-90.

Also just to let everyone know. The talk about pulling canada out for a year to get some time off. The reason for that, and im using the armour corp. as a example because thats my job and i know it well. Is we have 3 armour units in canada. 1 in Edmonton, which is a tank squadron. 1 in Petawawa which is recon and 1 in quebec which is also recon. With the unit im going to, since we are the tank squadron. We have 3 squadrons in the unit. 1 Squadron is over sea's, 1 squadron is doing there training to go over sea's and 1 squadron is on down time because they just came home. So when the squadron that is over is done there tour they go on down time, the training goes over and the one that was on down time starts training again. So you can imagine how tired there men/women get phyiscally and emotionally. Of course its people like the guy on Fox that dont understand that and think we are backing out to go play golf or walk on the beaches.

Anyways, thanks again everyone. I been talking to the guys i work with about this and lately thats all thats been going around is that fox bs. Really bad time for that with the funerals

As far as the Fox BS please dont judge all americans based on the most BIASED NEWS STATION IN THE US. I cant stand watching fox news, its the worst.

i dont really pay attention to the war over seas, i have many friends who have gone over and came back, some cant even play war games on ps3 or xbox now cause they are scared.
i have another buddy that hes gone into deep depression over it and bleeds from not nose mouth and ears when ever this topic is brought up.
he was just let go from the military witch personaly is the best thing.
i feel that the canadians should leave, its not a battle between us and them, its the states thing let them do it on their own!
or better yet pull everyone out and drop a bomb on them killing them all so we dont have to deal with it no more.
but everyone has their own look on it, i personaly just dont agree with it.
why cant everyone live in peace?
like dont we send food and money down to them people in them poor countrys? why cant they respect that we try to help them? oh well thats my 2 cents.
hopefully i didnt affend anyone in the military

I'd like everyone to live in peace but it won't happen. That being said, we should ******* nuke that whole area

SO... you don't feel that that is ignorant either? I guess it isn't, because "us Canadian's" live in igloos and our police ride horses and don't drive vehicles. Canada supplies the United States all the fresh water they can for literally $1.00 a year!!! we have a good chunk of the world's fresh water reserve which we willingly share virtually free of cost. And yes, we do supply damn good maple syrup. but that is beside the point... I know that we get a lot from the US and the US gets stuff from us. I also know that what FOX said doesn't represent all Americans. However, The majority of American's think that Canadians are of little value. When in actual fact it is Canadian troops fighting on the front lines along with the French.
I just think that the FOX segment aired was the most dis-tasteful thing i have heard in years especially as 4 more of our brave troops come home in caskets that same week... I've heard and experienced first hand American's being ignorant and dis-respectful but this is way over the line and "humor". And to think of how many people it took to produce that segment on FOX, and NO ONE stopped it...But, This is just my opinion.
