BC insurance

I just moved to Vancouver, BC and I'm in shock because of how high insurance is up here. I moved here from Virginia and my previous driving records do not transfer so I am basically starting over. It would cost me $350 a month throught ICBC...and that's just for me to drive 6 days a month. Are there any other companies in BC that are cheaper?? What do BC residents usually pay? My car is still at my parents house in VA and I would hate for it to stay there and not be driven. I might end up selling it if I can't drive it anymore.

It costs me $158 a month and that is with a 43% discount which is the highest you can get. I am also 40 so age isn't a factor. There isn't any other way to insure you car other than ICBC. If there were private insurers I would think the rates may even be steeper. I may be mistaken but I believe Toronto's rates are higher.

yeah with a 40% discount i'm paying $197 a month for a 2006 cobalt ss/na with all optional insurance. However, I believe if you may be able to get private insurance for your optional insurance (ie. thru Canadian Direct) if you meet certain qualifications (ie. age, years of driving, # of accidents).

Good luck.

You have to have Icbc insurance but if you go with only $250,000 Third party Liability you can get Collision and Comprehensive etc. through ING, Canadian Northern SHield, Canadian Direct INsurance, Lombard etc. There is a ton of them but you HAVE to start with ICBC. You can't insure a car in BC without it. I used to work in the replacement car industry (car rental). Look into it can be worthwhile.

Your that old???
Rates also change from area to area of the province, even the lower mainland.
I pay $117. for complete coverage and roadstar.
Another reason for the differences in rates is how the replacement coverage is done. I put my replacement cost on the purchase price of the car (0% financing) because ICBC really hits you hard in year two and three.

The rates seem lower in the area where your sister is your mother and sleeping with first cousins is recommended.

Do you have yours under a business setup? $40 a month is a big difference just by 15 miles or so away. Or is it bare bones white knuckle insurance?

I have the replacement cost thing but I think it is like $10-12 a month extra. You must get the inbred community discount.

And Mike I am sure with you terrorizing the province with your Lower Mainland type driving, you will drive the rates up.

Used to live by it,Richmond are known as the worst drivers in North America, alot of them are driving illegally and many have international licences from far east.

Hey shut Mike..... Richmond representin'!

They're not bad drivers, they're just crazy drivers haha.

Well since you're going to Kwantlen we'll have to get together for coffee, I can see the school by standing on the roof of my house.
