Looking for an LNF

EDIT - No longer in the market! Got something very different at the end of the day lol. Thanks to all that reached out to me.

Hey everyone! Long time no see!

I have been poking around for a minute and am starting to look more aggressively for a good condition LNF car.

I am near Chicago, willing to travel or arrange for shipping for the right car.

Budget is ideally ~10k but flexible. Would not be ready to close the deal until about the end of the month, as i am closing on a house in a week and change.

If you are considering selling, please PM me details including:
Year
Mileage
Overall condition, options, color etc
Modifications
Current or possible issues.
And maybe phone # so we can get some pictures, etc.

Thanks in advance!
Adam

Welcome back! I'm half tempted to sell mine, but you wouldn't want the issues.

haha! nice to see you guys still kicking on here.

We will see what happens, anyway. I had to sell an audi s4 to make getting a new house just a little bit easier. Since then i've been thinking of a few options... ~99 eclipse, ~2004 RSX type S, or a clean LSJ or LNF. Or another GTI lol

Out of all of your options, I'd lean towards the LSJ or LNF. The 99 eclipse is going to be a rust bucket or way overpriced at this point, similar with the RSX type S. Don't get another GTI, get the R if you're going the VW route again.

What generation S4? I had a B8.5 S5 until March.

Also, why a '99 Eclipse specifically? Clean DSM's (aka non-99's ) have been pulling a premium for a while. I'll always have a soft spot for them.

For cheap and fast... LNF wins. Otherwise, I'd say to go for another GTI. Or go for a MK1 TT225. I was searching for MK4 GTI's and MK1 TT's at the start of this year with the intention of stripping it bare and making a track car with it.

I love VW's... but I've never been crazy about the R. For not all that much more money, the TTS, TTRS, S3, and RS3 are way better options.

Wait until after I convince him to buy my LSJ.

The car market in general is red hot right now so those niche cars are going to be $$$ more than just a couple years ago.

...also, you guys are hilarious.

This is what I think about the mod vs mod ban comments:

The only thing about the R's I like (which has probably changed now) was the price point, you couldn't pick up an RS3 for the same money and if you were lucky you could find a manual Golf R. I like the looks of the S or RS3 way more than the R. I haven't looked at prices for awhile as a new car hasn't been in my sights. Also the R over the GTI is the AWD, he's in Chicagoland so snow and AWD is way more fun the snow and FWD.

True enough. The S3 is the true comparison. But there isn't a new R available for another year or so, either, iirc. They always release in the US a year behind the EU.

haha you guys are all funny!

Listen up, I came here to say hi, and find a cobalt, and my welcome has run out. So here is my hot-take response.

* Had a B8.5 Manual S4. It was an epic and awesome car. Best driving and most refined thing i've ever had.
* Golf R of course is another option I've continually mulled over; the MK6 (through 2013) are becoming affordable but have the TSI engine, which is fine but kinda problematic compared the the TSI. The MK7 (through current) is just out of my range.
* GTI's are wicked nice and fun. I've had three of them since I sold my LSJ. 2 MK7's and 1 MK6. They ride nicer, have epic interiors, and are real drivers cars, vs the cobalt being more of a fast econobox. But do i want yet another one? Meh, hard to say. making a MK7 fast with a turbo swap, clutch, etc takes a solid ~8000 in parts all said and done. I'm getting a big boy house and think I might need to settle down a bit.
* Always wanted a 99 Eclipse GSX just like everyone who grew up in the 90's did. Well aware most are a few rust patches away from crumbling to the ground. Hard to find a clean well kept example. Wife hates them.
* LSJ... Yes of course I always love the LSJ, long live the LSJ, but they are another ~3 years older than LNFs which are already ~12+ years old. And holy *****, good luck finding a clean one without 160,000 miles on it now. I just don't know how much i wanna Fiddle-F*** around with one. I'd keep it supercharged for the whiney noises but don't wanna do a whole TVS setup again, and don't want a slow car either. So, LNF it is.
* @ I'm still a mod! Whoever decided that was a good idea?

Someone reached out to me with a 26,000 mile '09 LNF which i am strongly considering. So maybe i will see y'all soon!

I concur. Can't find those anymore with such low mileage. Hopefully the price is enticing enough

You left us. No coming back. Good luck finding one. I’ve exhausted my efforts and realized I’m left with my Charger. I’m now rocking this bad boy. Along with my gas guzzling Hemi ram… Still has 395/405 numbers with a 3.92 gear ratio.

Look at this bad boy! 287/262 awd skirt. Screw a Cobalt!

Are you looking for a DD or a side piece? DDing a DSM sounds like trouble. And as someone that has done it recently... going from DDing a B8.5 to DDing a Cobalt.... big oof.

MK7 GTI is best option of what you have listed, imo.

I don't know how much you've kept up with the Cobalt aftermarket... but it's getting thinner and thinner. There are a number of parts that ZZP no longer makes or has access. GM has stopped making a large majority of OE parts, as well. Replacement F35's are getting harder and harder to find (among other things)... which means they're getting more and more expensive.

wound up, instead of getting a cobalt ss - got TWO volskwagen jetta GLI's

Got one from a buddy for 3,000 that needs some work, whole interior, etc.
Bought another one that was totaled due to smacking a pothole lid on the subframe to part out for 1,000.

Gonna have some fun haha

Nice cheap grabs. MK4's or MK5's? I can't imagine a MK6 or 7 being that cheap or trashed (but I'm sure it's possible).

as much as I want to give you **** for not getting a cobalt, you got a good deal there. They'll be way better for commuting from a comfort standpoint
