CP's '06 GTO M6 first time at track

So i went to the track last night for my first time ever and i think i did alright for the conditions. I had a hard time grabbing traction and if not that then avoiding wheel hop.

My best time:
60': 2.259
660': 9.154
E.T.: 14.040
MPH: 100.381

I started with a 2.4 60' and 14.6 E.T. with 40 psi in the tires. I only got heavy wheel spin but no wheel hop.

Once i realized that the tires had all that pressure i dropped them to 25 psi and the second run after dropping the pressure i got my best time.

I need to find the sweet spot to launch between wheel hop and tire spin. My best times were tire spin with the lower tire pressure, if i didn't give it enough throttle i would get 2.3-2.4 60's with really bad wheel hop.

The track is at roughly 5000' and it was probably a good 70* out.

I also have the 17" wheels with all seasons which doesn't help, next time i will shoot for 13's.

I believe a good time at 5000' should be 13.8 or maybe a little lower. For now i am shooting for 13.8.

I assure you that the air density was much higher then Albuquerques 5300ft..

That is a tough tough track to run a good time on...

You did well....

i was pissed about my 60' times, i need some practice. There was a '04 GTO who ran a 16 and a 15.3 so i felt better after that. I might have to get two extra wheels with some aggressive tires for track days.

Man , you guys get soo cheated out there Good times nonetheless CP .

So , was it easier to contol the wheel hop coming from the back of the car , as opposed to the SS ? Ive driven a few GTO's but never had the chance to really stand on it from a stop .

The GTO almost gets worse wheel hop in certain cituations. I got it so bad one time the whole body felt like it was going to come into pieces. I think with seom adjustable shots and drag bags i won't have a problem. I need to test a few different RPM's next time now that i know what to do. I think 2,800 is a really good launching RPM, but with that being my first time out i wasn't really focused.

I have checked them out. Oh and on a side note for these times i am putting down 280hp/280tq uncorrected.

yeah man that was fun out there but yeah i started to get better i hit a 14.651 after you left shitty ass 60 times but after i dropped the presure on my tires i whent to **** but it might have been the temp beacuse of the rain it got lot colder so no grip but after that i couldn't get in the 14's only low 15 so that realy sucked that and it would stay burning out all trought first and half of second gear

sounds like you might be in the high 12's at sea-level.

Get more specifics when you run (temp, phyical altitude, humity, air pressure) and then you can figure out your true times

Not with 2.2 60 footers.

yeah but at sea-level he would not be 2.2 60fts. They go down too--not as much but still.

A great 60 ft time is important of course but its not the be all and end all. I cut 2.1 60 times in Calgary with my old Mustang--it ran 14.9 uncorrected. At sea-level that might be a 13.9

I am saying MOSTLY for the GTO to cut a high 12 it needs a <2.0 60'

I definitly need to lower my 60' times. Since it was my first time i wasn't really focused on what i was doing. I know i'll do better next time, practice makes perfect.

Isn't the car rated at 400hp/400trq??? I don't even think a mustage dyno would dyno that low.

Oh well nice time BTW considering your elevation.

lol, why do you think people run slower times at higher elevation tracks? Because their cars make less power. That is why he said 280/280 *UNCORRECTED* That's why he has 14 second GTO instead of a low 13 second GTO close to sea level.

if i lived in a high elevation area i would just save my money. It seems muscle cars aren't worth it. I would be pissed if my 400 hp torque monster could only run 14's. To me you have only one option move to an area sea level and start hauling some ass.....

Great times CP considering the elevation. You'll have to make a roadtrip to HRP here in Houston! It's 10 feet above sea level lol, I'm sure you'd absolutely love it!

try slipping out the clutch around 2500 - 3000 rpm (found out it works best for me) also there's a fuse under the hoood (these GTO's have ALOT of hidden things) for the fuel. Befroe 5000 miles these cars learn your driving habits and if you don't beat on it on a daily basis the computer retards the timing. We reset it every time we went to the track and noticed better results. Try that.....

So i revisited the track last night (This will make the 4th time) with great results, i'm really happy. I started off at 22 Psi in the DR's and still wasn't getting the times i wanted so i dropped it to 20 psi still not what i wanted and then to 18 psi and that was definitly the sweet spot. I'm glad i went down in steps cause it helped me adjust to the new traction.

But anyways on 18 PSI and a good tire warmup i got a new PB and consistent 13's by the end of the night

Best E.T.:

60'- 2.119
660'- 8.878
E.T.- 13.781
MPH- 98

Best 60':

60'- 2.098
660'- 8.960
E.T.- 13.872
MPH- 98.962

This shows that there is room for improvement I just need more practice.

I'll be out there again soon to get some better times with more practice but i'm comfident that 13's will be consistent now

For all of you who don't know the Alb. track its at 5,500 feet.

Last night i calculated the DA to be 7,700'
