Drag Racing in Kansas

Went to Heartland Park in Topeka last night and had pretty good success. I got quite a few runs in since not a lot of people were there. My best run was against a newer F-body. He said he had quite a bit of work done but the run against me he missed a shift. I ran pretty consistent 13.3x and 13.4x all night.

Everyone had really good things to say to me and I got a lot of compliments on the car. I had one guy in a old POS eagle talon or something come up after I ran him and go "13s man? Are you for real? I lined up against you and didn't even think you could run 15 flat." hahah

Definitely a good night though.

Very nice runs. Looks like that F-body missed his 1-2 shift. His 330' has you, but his 1/8th doesnt. My torco additive arrived today, after only ordering it yesterday. Surprised the hell out of me. I'll probably bring it and use it at the July 21st event.

He actually missed the 2-3 shift. I don't know what all he had down but he was running E/T slicks and a lot of exhaust and suspension work but still could only get a 13.04 at best. There were a lot of Mach 1s, older Cobras, and GTs there. A guy with a 99 Cobra came up to me and said "I'd like to beat that little Chevy but I don't think its going to happen."

Nice runs... gotta love when others think you only run 15's...lol

Wish Milan hooked like that...

Pat, your so close to a 12.... a 1.8 60ft would make it possible. You running airbags and QTP tires correct?

I'm not running QTPs. I am kind of afraid of how they would hook with my stock clutch and stock axles. I am running some 15" M&H drag radials. They are a good tire, I need to adjust my first gear boost with HPT for my launch. Water injection and Downpipe are next. That with some 104 and I'll have 12s by August..... Hopefully

Yup.... I hear you on the QTP's and axels...... Sold mine a while back and was just running the stock tires.

My first gear bost I have mine set to 30,60,100,100--------100 for street tires
I tried 50,100,100,100----------100 when I had the QTP's and that worked well. the more power we make the more we have to reduce the boost now with all this torque...

Downpipe will make a huge difference... should see 2mph gain with your setup hopefully.

That would be awesome. The car felt really strong last night and if I had another hour to run I may have gotten 13.2. I had a lot of 13.37 and 13.38s and then on my second to last run I ran that 13.32 with a less than best 60'. So maybe I need to do the downpipe next....

Yeah that is a good 1000'. I think I was pulling timing on this run. I was trying some different tunes and got a little wild. I tried pushing 28 degrees of timing and I started seeing 5-6 degrees of knock across the board. I had a hard time getting my tune back in line then. That and clearly you are a superior driver compared to me

My IAT2s are killing me. I don't know if you have a scan gauge or not but you should look at your IAT2 sensor sometime. I see 180 on drag runs. And this is with my fans on 100%, ice box, and intercooler pump and fans running even with the car off. I need Water injection. 12s by August is the goal!!! Thanks for the encouragement!

Damn, that's allot of timming...WOW
I only run 18 on pump gas and 21 on 100 unleaded race gas. My coolant temps during a run are 180's and my IAT2's never go past 150's heat rise from 102-150 max.... I also use a timming tricker to keep my IAT2's temps at a solid 53degees when running race gas with the flick of a switch... Worth 2 tenths and 1mph last time I was at the track.

Whoa, what is this timing tricker? I may have found 13.2s or better.....

Daren if you want I'll send you my log of my knock with my high timing. I pushed 25 degrees through second degree and then I started to get knock in third.

Basically it's an old school trick we used on Grand Nationals.... and I think some of the guys use one on the IAT1 sensor of the LS1's.

With our cars it's vital because our computer calculates a ton depending on the IAT2 sensor.

A resistor tied into the IAT2 line to trick it into thinking it's a solid temperture. I have mine set to 53degrees. You car reads and calculates the airflow according to 53 temps.....risky....MUST USE RACE GAS AND WATCH KR!!!! Track use only. I have a switch that basically runs the stock settings and when I switch it it reads 53degrees all the time for my IAT2..... runs the car a little leaner and increased timming with a flip of the switch, but you tune according with a race calibration..... hint..hint... extra mph instead of changing the calibration. Just each car is different and watch KR.....it might add too much timming and your runing a ton as it is already.

Ya, your temps are killing you... sometimes too much timing can hurt you in a forced application since that air is heating up too much too fast. Bryan already told me about your logs... I really think it's the temps that are causing it... I never see those high IAT2 temps in my car. you might have to adjust your MAF tables and VE tables....
