Drag Tires Help

OK here is the scoop. I ran at a 1/4mi track 3 times on my 18s. They have 225/45/18 Falken 452s. 300 AA A. My best 1/4mi to date is 13.7 at 108 and a best 1/8th mile of 9.0, but not on my 13.7 run.

I also have 16" steelies with 2 bridgestone something or another 215/60/16 rated at 260 A A and on the other 2 I have snow tires. The non-snow tires are pretty much brand new, 7-8/32nds I'd say. Snows were only used one winter.

Question is - Which wheels to run?

Weight - 16s weight 1.5 lbs less a wheel.

Everyone I asked so far says to run the 16s. I was going to lower the bridgestones on the front and jack up the snows tire pressure on the rear.

What would you guys try? I am running the 1/8th mile tomorrow. Brand new track, new surface. Hoping to break my best 1/8th of 9.0.

Suggestions? I am leaning towards the 16s.

Common!

bump for the evening peoples

I'm no racer but i would say the 16's with the softer compound. seems like a no brainer, you've already tried it with the 18's now do the 16's and you will answer your own question.

Yeah that is what I am going to do. I have the 16s on. I am not sure why they are rated so low, the tread number. I don't care if I burn these up so I figured why not. We'll see what happens.

Use the 16's, take a video of you roasting the tires, and put some drag slicks on them!

Ha ha. They actually were pretty impressive. I roasted the **** out of them. I was pulling 2.2s-2.3s in um. My best with the 18s is 2.2 so I guess that isn't too bad.

This was an 1/8th mile...

My first run I ran a 9.02.

2nd run was 9.03

I was in the time class, not for eliminations. I figured ****, I'm consistant, ill change over to sport compact. So I did, had one last time run and ran a 9.5, wheelhoped so i got out of it.

First run in the eliminations I was up against a wrx, we both dialed 9.0. He red lighted and I saw it so I just ran a casual 11.XX.

2nd round I was up against a bracket race built cavy. Gutted interior, slicks, auto.. ****.

I ran a 8.92 on my 9.0.

All in all, I got a 2 feet tall trophy for winning a round and had a blast. It was kick ass.

It was fun as hell. That is what is cool about bracket racing, you don't need to be fast. Just consistent with good reaction times.

There was a 2.2L cobalt there, auto, with a 75 shot running 9.6s. I think he said his best last season was 9.0. Pretty damn impressive for a 2.2L.

im running a set of hoosier QTP's on 16in saab wheels, my best is 8.7 with a 60 ft of 2.0 this is an 18th mile time. the track really isn't a track it more of a parking lot at the san diego chargers stadium.

Thats pretty good. I am sure with a good 2.0 60' I could run around 8.7 if not a hair less. I just don't know if I want to get a set of slicks/DRs yet or not. I don't go that often.

smaller tires = less rotating mass = faster

I get that. I weighed them, 1.5 lbs smaller for the 16s, and that was for the tires I had on the front. I never weighed the two with the snow tires, they may have been heavier, but they were on the back so it really didn't matter. The overall diameter is pretty much the same so that wouldn't be effected.

I ran my best 1/8th mi and it was hot so I guess I can say they work pretty good. My trap was down from my previous best 1/8th mi by 2 mph but it makes sense because i had a lot better 60'.

I think I am going to bump the boost back up in first atleast from like 4-7k. I had it wide open pretty much once I got to around 3-4k and it was just pulling, no wheel spin.
